Anyone know any good mp3 players that I can use when I start running and exercising.

Since I'm fundamentally laptop-bound, I stopped caring about MP3 players many years ago, but the most up-to-date information I have is that the latest (as of 2 years ago or so) line of Samsung players has one of the best sound processors available.

Don't get iPods, even if your real-life surroundings might suggest that you do so. They are mostly used either by hipsters who care about form and fitting in over function or by staunch Apple cultists who would provide good word-of-mouth even to canine droppings with a lowercase i prefixed. Audio quality is bad, prices are higher than what you would expect for another device of similar quality and if you ever run into problems with it or want to use something less limited than Apple's toolchain, you will find that their policy violates you with a spiked bat.

Well, I have the original 160GB iPod Classic that has a dual platter Hard Drive. I would use that but I am worried about it getting shock damaged. Also the only reason i have have this mp3 player is because it is the only thing big enough for my 138GB music collection.

Do you need all the 138GB when running and exercising?

You'd probably die of exhaustion long before you can listen to all of it while running and exercising.

Uncompressed, 138 GB of music would take about 300 hours to play. That's assuming CD quality. And since your music collection probably consists out of MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files... yeah that's a really long jog.

Though I admit I would need somewhat big storage myself, since I'm fond of dumping music as FLAC when I rip it from CD's.

I wouldn't worry about shock damage, which HD's are usually rather sensitive the kind found in portable music players are made for heavy movement, and usually have a cache to allow for some shakiness.

Do I really have to go through the math and explanation of why having such a large collection is a good idea? I don't have much (a small collection of non-MP3 audio CD's) and I can see the amazing benefits to a 160GB player.

It varies between MP3 and WMA. My CD Rips are 320kbps and the
MP3. Also in the end there is only between around 30 and 40 albums I listen to with around 120 other individual songs.

Also does anyone know if SDHC will work in a normal SD card slot.

Go ahead and use your iPod, they're made for that kind of usage

Yeah, there's also that. I would expect HD players of this generation to have reasonably low radii and powerful enough shock protection to survive something like that, unless the instructions explicitly say otherwise.

This thing is a brick though it weighs more than my DSi.
