Okay, the first post of this thread is taken exactly from the other board, but I thought I'd post this here too. Ziff, you can post again if you feel like it.

It seems that after the four DVD releases (which will also be chopped into seperate episodes when ran on TV), Futurama will be done for good. The end. The biggest things that absolutely HAVE to be resolved, in my opinion, are:

Spoiler:
- Fry's true destiny. I think that the Brainspawn were only part of it.. inevitably he'll end up saving the universe (again), somehow.

- "The Other".. I know that this is Leela, but what does this mean?

- The whole "Fry / Leela" relationship. The new series is supposed to be two years in the future since "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings".. and I know that many shippers really want them to be together, but I am sure they are going to be sorely disappointed when the first DVD comes out. I think they are going to be a bit closer than they were in the TV series, but still not in any relationship. My guess is that they will finally get together near the end of the last DVD and get married, because that way the producers can give the fans what they want and not risk ruining the rest of the series (since there would be no more).

- I've read this article from this site: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=24076

I have no idea whether to believe any of it or not, since a lot of false and misleading stuff has spread over the years. But there's a few things I'd like to go over.. like first of all, Seymour. Leave the poor dog rest in peace.. but I have this feeling that there's going to be yet another tearjerking moment with him, but Fry will see it this time (as if one wasn't enough).

This line tells me a lot (if any of that article is even true): By episode's end, the world of Futurama is left more or less unchanged..

To me, this means that nothing that anyone is expecting / predicting is going to happen (on the first DVD, at least). But that doesn't matter very much since there will still be three more to go. The first DVD will be more like a reintroduction to everyone, what's been happening to them in the past two years, etc..

If you haven't guessed by now, then yes.. I am a Fry / Leela shipper. Just not very rabid, I think..

Since this will be the end, I think the producers are going to go all-out to end the series with a bang. I'm really hoping the DVD movies don't suck.. but since this is Futurama, they probably won't (I couldn't say the same if this was The Simpsons, which stopped being good in the mid to late 90's).

What do you think are some things that might happen over the course of the four DVDs?

I dunno, I'm a huge fan of Futurama, and I think Leela and Fry SHOULD get together definitely. Who knows how they'll handle it in the series, but my guess is they're gonna draw it out and like you said, only make it certain they'll stay together at the very end. They need the drama/tension to keep people watching ;-)

It was implied at the end of the last episode that they probably would have, that Fry finally won. But with the new DVDs coming out, they're going to have to write everything in a way so that it doesn't come out as forced or contrived too early on.

The worst ways that they could end the series are:

Spoiler:
1. Fry or Leela dying.

2. Fry and Leela remaining friends and marrying other people (think of The Wonder Years. The fact that Kevin didn't end up with Winnie after all of that sucked big time).

3. Fry waking up (on December 31, 1999) to find out it was all a dream.. and then either freezes himself or ends up frozen again in the same way, starting the whole series over.

4. After the last scene, the screen zooming out showing somebody looking into a What-If Machine (like Nibbler, showing what would happen if he pushed Fry in to be frozen in 1999.. ie. the whole series. He'd then say to himself that Fry is the "Mighty One" and leave to Earth, starting the whole chain from the beginning).

Actually, I kind of like that last one.

I'm just pulling this verbatim

Its plays on relationships are quite serious. Even when it comes down to Zoidberg and Herald Zoid, it shows the changes that happen after a person feels useless - something that Zoidberg feels often (which makes him quite delusional). I shit you not. I always feel uncomfortable watching Jurassic Bark and Luck of the Fryish around people, the Sting too, but that is different. Jurassic Bark has a feeling of estrangment. It is complex and causes you to questiion relationships with not just a dog, but a person. Fry's last line is applicable to so many things. Seymour is, abstractly, both a lover and a friend of Fry. He is a confidante of the character and his effective soul mate. And like wise it is like a devotion of marriage at the end. Seymour will not leave Fry's side. Even if Fry is not there. I think it is the fact that there are some friends that will always believe in you even when you can't understand their depth of loyalty that really touches you. And also, Luck of the Fryish has an erstwhile theme about ongoing devotion between those who genuinely love each other - even when it is combative. Yansi and Fry may fight, but they are still brothers. And Yansi only had respect for his brother - going so far as to name his own son after his brother, breaking the chain of Yancy (a family tradition). He imparted all of Fry's dreams to his son and raised him to be a genuinely good person who is more or less selfless, like Fry. Both of those episodes are interesting because it represents the catharsis of Fry in two different lights. Both of them are maturing experiences where he grows as a character to understand the emotions he is feeling and to have a deeper insight into his erstwhile character. In both he fails to understand the depth of devotion of both relative characters. However, he learns that people didn't move on from his death and just forget about him and supplant him in Fryish. In Jurassic he assumes that his best friend would've moved on from him, but instead his friend stays there til' he dies. I always found that aspect of the show quite interesting.

Although the ending of Lisa's Substitute Teacher is so brutally honest that I have to choke back a bit.

I always liked Homer's botched line in that episode: "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!"

From what I've been looking around the internet, it's not exactly "final" if these four DVDs are going to be the end of the series for sure, but I hope they are. I'd like to see everything get wrapped up nicely and not have the show continue on and rot like The Simpsons.

Seriously.. one of the latest storylines was Bart getting "one wish" for saving the town from a fire and getting a driver's license.

I can't believe I didn't hear about this until now.

I mean, I'm not a huge Futurama fan (I love it, I wasn't aware of it when it was on TV, and haven't gotten around to getting the DVDs), but this seriously made my day.

I really think that Fox has something wrong with it. Futurama, Arrested Development? Two of the best shows of our generation they both fudge up and can.

There's another one (newer) with Matt Groening somewhere, but it's pretty much the same thing.
