I love my new monitor. I can't remember how many inches, but its resolution is 1920x1080. It's a lot better than that temporary square one I was using for the past week. Anyone else got a new monitor recently?

No, but I've been contemplating it. However, anything short of 1200 vertical resolution would hardly feel like an improvement over 1280x1024 (as really, when you do things other than watching movies, vertical screen space is much more valuable than horizontal).

I'm on the same fence myself. I'm still using a 17" Compaq Presario monitor. Not a flat screen either :'(. At least that's the case on my personal computer. The computer I use for internet has a 19" non-widescreen on it.
Basically, anything on the market now is an improvement.

I've got a 28" 1920x1200 monitor recently with my new computer, it's rather nice...

I have a 1920x1080 screen, but I've got a netbook that doesn't support that large of a display. I use it as my gaming TV for the current-gen consoles and for DTV. The one I use for my netbook docking station is 1280x1024 and is at least 8 years old. It has a damaged spot on it, and the netbook can barely push the video to it.

If I ever get a new computer, it will be a desktop and one of those nifty Gateway or Apple 1600p displays. I think it's like 2480x1600? Something like that.

It looks like you would mean 2560x1600.

I think one of those would push my laptop's graphics adapter beyond its limits as far as pushing pixels goes in the end... if that wasn't the problem, one of those absurd-tier screens would undoubtedly be nice to have.

A 21.5" 1080p Touchscreen. Had it quite a while, but I don't see a need to upgrade for a long time.

A big monitor is one of those things I want to buy fairly soon.

Mostly for gaming though. And I don't like the overkill widescreen monitors. I will still use a 1280x1024 monitor as secondary anyway.

I have a new lappy, so it has a new monitor (duh). 15" screen with a 1680x1050 resolution.

Very nice screen.

That being said, I've got a second monitor which I bought six-ish months ago for use with my older computer which is a 24" monitor at 1920x1080. Great screen.

I would love a new monitor, but there are several problems with current offerings.

It must be at least 96 DPI. That is what my current screens are, & I can see rough edges in pictures. Anything coarser is just going to be worse. Finer would be great, but everyone seems to think 1920×1080 is the one resolution to rule them all.
I want ≥10-finger multitouch. Oh, wait, that costs a lot. Plus, the only such monitor I found is less than 96DPI.
I would really like one of those 30" 2560×1600 displays, but they cost even more. (If I could affordjustify such a thing I would be fine without the touchscreen capability - I would find some way to make do, perhaps a non-screen touch surface.)

So, basically, my current 1280×1024 screen still keeps the marginal utility of available offerings below their cost.

x1080 seems like an unacceptable lack of vertical screen space, and so I've been thinking to obtain that. Any comments, or experiences with monitors of the same resolution and similar size?

Well, I've got 1920x1200, and it's pretty damn nice. My monitor size is a big larger than what you linked (28" vs 24"), though I'm not sure how much that'll change anything; depending on your current resolution/monitor (you said 1280x1024, but didn't mention current monitor size), everything might look a bit smaller than you're used to I suppose.

The board'll have a lot of empty space all over, too.

Oh, which one is it? I've been on the outlook for a 1920x1200 monitor larger than 24", but there seem to be very few models and most of them appear to be receiving abysmal ratings...

I've a 27" 1080p HDTV, but in VGA mode, it only goes up to 1600x1024. Doesn't help that it's a cheap Chinese TV.

I'll pop in long enough to say "god I wish the cats hadn't pissed down my LCD".

I need bigger monitors anyway.
