Now that we have quite powerful computers with lots of juice, I easily value accuracy over speed. But what emulators are the most accurate?

Right now I consider Nestopia the most accurate emulator for emulating NES, and bsnes the most accurate SNES emulator. But I might be wrong with Nestopia, especially as the project been inactive for awhile.

However I'm curious what is considered the most accurate GB, GBA and N64 emulators, especially the open source kind.

(As useful fceux is as a tool emulator, I wouldn't call it accurate btw)

I couldn't really say as far as N64 goes, but I'm fairly sure for GBA at least, no$gba is the most accurate. Possibly for GB too.

I'd agree with no$gb/no$gba. They're the most accurate out there.

Nintendulator is up there too in terms of NES accuracy, but is nowhere near as popular as Nestopia.

All the current popular N64 emulators are still pretty terrible in accuracy as far as I know. I saw pretty good progress of N64 emulation in MESS which seems to be low-level emulating everything. No 3D acceleration and it does come at great cost of CPU time. It does have the obvious compatibility bonus though over the emulators using high level emulation for the RCP.

Nintendulator and Nestopia have even shared code in the past... they're about equal in the accuracy department.

I remember a GB/GBC emulator with the cycle-accurate emulation goal... but I don't remember the name, nor was it open source.

As for N64 and GBA, MESS would be the only one I know of for either, but it's pretty slow for either.

I heard about claims regarding Nintendulator, but have anyone compared those two emulators? Maybe I should check it out for myself, though I would only be able to compare how the emulators handle PAL ROM vs my real PAL NES.

The idea of MESS is weird (putting emulators together) but if it's accurate I ought to check it out I guess.

I'd still use FCEUltra/FCEUX.

As for SNES I use ZSNES but I hear the newer versions of Snes9X are good too. ZSNES actually failed to emulate a certain ROM for me a while ago but that was because of a certain feature in said game, I think.

"I remember a GB/GBC emulator with the cycle-accurate emulation goal... but I don't remember the name, nor was it open source."

For GB/GBA, I'd recommend Visualboy Advance CE or the regular version of it. VBA for short.

For Sega Megadrive/Genesis I'd say that Gens or Kega Fusion is a good choice.

I still use virtuanes, I never liked FCEUltra nor any other nes emulator as much for some reason :\

For snes, I "still" use Zsnes sine snes9X and Bsnes dosent emulate sound/music as good as zsnes, though last time I used snes9x/bsnes was some years ago

You should give bsnes .92 a go, then. You'd be surprised how much "some years" of active development can improve a product.

Of course, if you don't have good enough computer, bsnes will give out a rather stuttery sound.

As far I can tell, the sound emulation in bsnes s pretty much perfect otherwise.

There's always the Performance core, which throws a bit of accuracy to the wind specifically for those less fortunate, but I don't think the sound system is affected by that.

Performance core is supposedly good enough for most but some graphic timing-sensitive games. But I would only use it in the case the regular core is too slow.
