Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American members!

I don't have anything else to say.

Spoiler:
Totally worth making a thread.

I've heard that, for the Unitedstatians, Thanksgiving is almost more important than Christmas... True or False?

Most definitely false.

Working in retail proves this fact to me. We've had Christmas displays up in the seasonal department in the Lowe's I work at PREDATING Halloween. I swear, they were setting up the shelves on aisles 21 and 22 on September 31 to have the Christmas stuff on display for the beginning of October.

Thanksgiving is our second Valentine's day. It celebrates some shit that is not of large cultural or religious significance, and seems to exist to generate money and artificial good will.

Actually, it does have cultural significance because of the historical aspect of it. Not that it's important anymore, because like every other holiday that was supposed to have meaning, it ceases to have such.

The big one that generates money and artificial good will, as you put it, is Christmas. Which was SUPPOSED to be a Christian holiday, that had its roots in Paganism. Oh the irony.

I dunno I still find myself wondering why we celebrate the harvest festival and try to pass it off as a thank you to Indians. Seems kind of like a slap in the face. Not that they care now though of course.

Anyway though, in the spirit of the day I think I'll gorge myself on ham and turkey this afternoon.

I had a great day!
Came back from being at a friends house for two days to make, and eat, a great meal with my family.
Plus, I got Left 4 Dead 2 for no particular reason.

I ate an oversized meal at my uncle's place with the extended family, went home, drank a bit while watching the Simpsons with my immediate family, passed out on the couch, and woke up around 7. Gotta say, it's a strange holiday.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, and Black Friday is so closely associated with it, how many of you are going shopping today for Christmas paraphernalia?

Speaking of Christmas gear, wouldn't it be an extremely economical choice - if you are thus inclined anyway - to just found your own sect of Christianity that celebrates Christmas on the 27th and 28th so that you can profit from the extreme rebate when everybody starts turning their unwanted presents back in and nobody wants the leftover decorations and cakes anymore?

I mean, it's not like there is any historical significance to the date beyond people having chosen it for proximity to Winter solstice/some heathen celebration that needed to be hijacked/whatever anyway.

I like this strategy. If nothing else, go for the bacon. Good fucking work.
