And what better way to start it then with some trade deadline news and such!

Philly trades Forsberg to Nashville for Upshall, Parent, and 2 picks
Phoenix trades Nagy to Dallas for Tjarnqvist and a pick
Calgary trades Ference and Kobasew to Boston for Stuart, Primeau, and a pick Edmonton trades Bergeron to Isles for Grebeshkov

More Moves and rumors

Definitely should be an interesting deadline season. Hope my Leafs can make it in to the playoffs this year.

Everyone a few weeks ago: "You won't see many trades, there's no cap room, blah blah."

Now: "Wow, look at all these guys who might be on the move in the next week or so."

Gee, like every trade deadline isn't like that.

Man, the Sabres injuries keep piling up...

Afinogenov Wrist
Kotalik Knee
Novotny Ankle
Connolly Head\Leg
Paille Broken Finger
Spacek Knee
Gaustad Ankle Laceration

So many injuries, we've practically called up all of our prospects

That sucks for the Sabres. Losing any players can be a bad thing let alone losing all of those.

The Predators surprised me by jumping up to first place, then I hear they got Forsberg.

The other thing that surprised me was how Detroit got owned by the Flyers. I can't really say what happened there. It hurt so bad I had to stop watching it. How many points behind the 29th place team are they again?

One more trade:

Columbes trades Carter to Carolina for a draft pick

And, did anyone see the Sabres\Senators brawl last night? Pure freaking mayhem!

Here's the jerk who started it all:

Nice picture.

That was a bad hit on Drury. It was great support for that player to jump into that fight and defend him. It really surprised me how the other Sabre player jumped at Emery in defense of Biron. I was surprised when Biron got knocked over so quickly. Then the coaches going at it was entertaining. They seemed to be yelling at each other the whole time so I wonder if they could really hear anything the other one said.

I'd hate to be an official in this situation, besides not knowing what penalties to call, it would suck trying to break up a fight and take a hit or two while doing it.

But Emery is a BADASS.

As a non-hockey watcher, I have to admit, that was the coolest shit on television last night. ESPN playing that fight on like constant loop. I have no idea why the NHL is trying to ride fight starters hard. Haven't they seen Slapshot?

Slapshot kicked ass. My dad told me to watch it one night and I laughed my ass off. It was even funnier seeing the brothers playing with those toys. I want to see the second one.

Philly trades Zhitnik to Atlanta for Coburn
St. Louis trades Tkachuk to Atlanta for Metropolit and a shitload of picks
Montreal trades Rivet and a pick to San Jose for Gorges and a pick

Looks like Stanley Cup or bust for Atlanta...

Well, first Neil hit Drury, and now Janssen cold cocks Kaberle. What is the league coming to?

Janssen got suspended 3 games, BTW.

The race for the number one spot is extremely close anymore. Detroit moved within a point from first in the West as well as the league. Buffalo is also at 93 points, leading the East. This race for the number one is getting better every moment.

And like I say every year, I can't wait for the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the race for the #1 pick is being dominated by the Flyers.

Although that might be good...

yeah, and now Simon used his stick as a baseball bat, and a NY Ranger players face was the ball.

oh, and the Neil hit on Drury wasn't a late hit (it occured less than 0.5 seconds after he passed the puck).... but it was a high hit. I personally think what happened after the hit was far worse than the hit itself. Hitting is part of the game whether the intent is to injure or not. However telling your "enforcers" to go and get some of the top line of the other team is crap.

I still think they need to enforce some of the rules a little better. Somethings they'll give a suspension to, they need to be longer so they won't do it again. I mean, if you intentionally hit a player in the face with a stick, you shouldn't get a slap on the wrist.

The last time I seen it happen, it was a minor league hockey game. One player thought this other guy intentionally hooked him, but even then, the guy turned around and broke his stick over the guys face. That guy didn't get a little fine and suspension. He got kicked out of that minor league for I think it was a year. I'll have to look it up again to make sure.

oh I'm sure Simon will get suspended. Hopefully he'll be out for the rest of the season, or at least as long as the guy he hit. There will probably be some review by the league today about what happened and they will decide on punishment.

In my opinion an intentional hit in the face with a stick is grounds to suspend for the rest of the season. I mean this is much worse than a hard hit or a late hit. This is purposeful intent to hurt. He deserves a strict punishment.
