Ok, I've returned! Sorry for the lack of updates on Far Out, I've been focusing on this side-project for the past couple of weeks now. Don't worry though; I'll update Far Out in the near future. Anyway, what is Yoshi's Egg? Well, it all began about 2 weeks ago. I was testing new player graphics when I had an idea. Hardly anyone has attempted to create a Yoshi's Island DS style hack. And so it began...
So far, I've used a sprite status bar, and edited it using assembly. I then used BG Ripper to rip the BG's and ripped the rest from various screenshots and sprite sheets. This was the result:
Level 3-3: Windblown Coast

For those who were wondering if it's real or not, I'll post a video of this level when it's complete. This level is the level before the world 3 fortress BTW. This world has an ocean theme. The goonie sprite can be found on SMWC, I just edited the GFX to make them fit with the Yoshi's Island DS theme. For the level above, I'll add some wind flowers, to make the level more unique. The hack will include music from YIDS, courtesy of MSU-1. (MSU1 plays .wav music in snes hacks-so that they sound similar to MP3's)
Thanks to all who helped, I hope you enjoy!

For the record, that's "MSU1", no dash.

It can be either, but does that even matter? Comments on the screenshot anyone?

Looks great. The lack of status bar makes it look kinda fake though, so I hope that video clears things up.

Yeah, when I'm done with that level I'll show you all a small video. I got the status bar idea from others who are doing the same thing. All you need is smallhacker's status bar edit, a sprite status bar or a disable status bar patch. It's easy really!
The hardest part was the FG rip. The sprites are still in progress. The frames still need altering slightly. Have you got any ideas for world 3's boss? It has a water theme...
Edit: Also, the video may take a while longer than expected. I'm still making some of the sprites for the level. I'll try to keep you all updated BTW. I've also been planning the level names and icons for world 3. The game will use the original YI style level icon map OW system.

This suspiciously looks like this where the person refused to make a video even though people asked him to, to prove it.
Read in the thread about 15 posts (that should be enough) to understand what I'm talking about.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Thunder X is G.N.K. trying to fail trick a new board.

e: actually I would bet you $100 that he is lying. Same yoshi jump frame, arrow sign in the screenshot to make it look real, status bar can't be taken out that easily (read above thread linked), ect. ect.

Brace for no impact of video ever guys!

AND IF THIS IS REAL. The least you could do is post a screenshot of your desktop/zsnes/9xsnes/bsnes/whatever you kids are playing snes roms on these days, to make us at least know that it's in an emulator or that you tried a bit, put at least some effort, into pulling this stunt off by photoshoping.

Thank you.

The distance between the first and the second group of rocks in the background is 85 pixels. The distance between the second and third is 86 pixels.

I am skeptical.

But... exactly what would one have to gain out of that? Why go such lengths? I mean, the days when one would receive adoration and e-status for something as trivial as a graphics hack are long over... or at least I thought so.

Maxwell: You really wanna bet it's fake?
Proof so far: http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i439/gnk1/yoshi.png
I'm waiting until my ASM assistant fixes the bugs with the Goonie and Shy Guy before a video is in order. That is conclusive evidence that it isn't fake. What else do I have to do until you guys belive me? Why the hell would I lie for the sake of it?!

Read the above thread, you are G.N.K. You fail to trick anyone at SMWC, and it's not going to work here just because you can photoshop a bit. Also...zooming out the screen so people can't see clearly that it's an obvious photoshop won't help you.

Because he is butthurt about not being able trick SMWC, S.N.N., Supertails, Spud Alpha, ect.
He's trying to find new suckers to fall for this.

I notice that LM screenshot is conspicuously lacking the right arrow from the other one.

Regardless of that, seeing how it's still just a graphics mod, I don't see a reason to get so worked up about this. Perhaps he does provide a video or some less suspicious screenshots at some point; if not, I think very little harm is done.

What we have seen so far is not exactly impressive or interesting anyway. Graphics edits have existed since roughly the dawn of internet time, those graphics aren't even really custom and I don't see anything implying particularly good or interesting level design.

Either way, though, without having to go via video, there is a much simpler way to provide evidence for the authenticity of this. Surely, you will be using at least one of Snes9x, ZSNES or bsnes. Each of those, to my knowledge, has support for a bunch of scaling filters that are, due to their almost exclusive utility for pixel-art graphics, hardly or not at all used in other contexts than emulation. Can you change the image scaling filter to SuperEagle (Snes9x), 2xSal or perhaps HQ3x, whichever of those is supported in your emulator, and then take and post a screenshot of the result?

Haven't you heard? SMWC has the dumbest userbase ever seen in a hacking community. And one of the most incompetent staffs.

Also: Kindly stop being such an ass and cough up some goddamn proof. Pictures aren't proof when someone counters your claims. Record a goddamn video of the hack already. I speak for everyone here when I say that just one picture is bullshit. Especially when its component pieces are easily found in (gasp!!!) a SPRITESHEET.

OH BY THE WAY. Screenshots are 256x224, not 256x223. So hmmmmmmm.

Well, this is not SMWC. How is it relevant?

Also, I provided you a way you can prove the authenticity of your hack easily without having to take a video. Surely, it should be simple enough to do what I described and clear your name.

Guys

Check out the arrow sign

There is WHITE on the ARROW SIGN

Between the ARROW and the STICK.

This effectively proves that your claim of a legit hack is, for lack of a gentlemanly way to put it, utter fucking BULLSHIT.

By the way, any hacker worth his salt would understand the similarities between the Goonie and the Shy Guy's palette and work to combine the two. You have failed to do so. This proves that your hack is fake.

Ah, yeah, the white pixels are compelling.

Emulators would render 0x7FFF white (i.e. full SNES white) as 248,248,248 (padding with 0s).

Those pixels are 255,255,255.

Another colour appearing (in one of the goonies) is 222,239,247, and yet another has a 248 in there. That's decidedly a bit too DEEP for 15-bit colour~

This is not an ingame screenshot.

Trolololol

Also, I'm not getting worked up about this. I'm just trying to prove to Thunder X, GNK, whoever else they could be... that they're not going to fool people this easily.

e: lol I just realized that the name of the "hack" in the thread I posted picture of is the same as the one this "hack" has... yup

Wow, who would stoop that low to post the same crock in a different site and with higher caliber hackers? That's just begging to be flamed. This is just trolling in my book. Just ignore it, guys. Don't get worked up. It's probably just some kid trying to see if his photoshop skills are good enough to fool experienced, hardcore SNES hackers. He didn't not just go through the trouble of making a decent image edit (I've seen pictures of "Big Foot" more convincing than this) but he didn't even reupload the image in photobucket in order to be able to use a different name. But the link has gnk in it. What an epic fail, indeed! Thanks for the roflmaos!
