Tortise Handles.
So anyway, does such an act actually constitute animal cruelty?
I don't think so.
What are some other useful modifications for animals?

“They do have nerves in their shells, so it would have been painful for them when they were drilled,” says Hopcraft.

Technically speaking, given that piece of information, I would say it does.

But then, on the other hand, we use spores and whips on horses and kill cattle in a sometimes less than instant and painless manner, so I'd reckon our cultural definition of "animal cruelty" is rather secondary to tradition and convenience.

(Of course, on the other end, you also have green party extremists having some fairy-tale mentality where they anthropomorphise animals to a degree that they call everything they would consider an assault on their dignity if it was done on them animal cruelty)

Eh people pierce their ears and get tattoos though. And there's that issue of parents circumcising children before they can decide for themselves. Calling it animal abuse is a bit of a stretch.

Parents circumcising their children is pretty much universally considered child abuse where it doesn't happen under the protection of a sufficiently influential religious or ethnic group, and ear-piercing and tattoo-getting is still something a person inflicts upon themselves out of free will (and we hardly would consider the right to bang your head against the wall repeatedly an argument for somebody also having the right to bang somebody else's head against the wall repeatedly).

Tortoise handles? Seriously?

At first glance I thought this concerned handles made out of tortoise shell, but this is way crazier than that. I also like where this thread is going.

And no, I did not read the article.

I'm confused, what spores?

Rocket engines for pigs.

Because it'd make the saying "when pigs fly" totally useless.

Image can't be displayed because of errors.

Also, I find the tortoise handles to be fucking gross abuse. It's like you were the pet of someone and that person glued/whatever cables to you to be able to carry you more easily.

And those glowing cats... Jesus Christ when will those fucking retards we call scientists, stop playing with things they don't master, like DNA? Before they nuked any life on Earth I hope.
Cats are the most active during the night, and they have to be discrete, how do you want to be discrete when you're fucking glowing in the dark? That, for wild cats that would be. Now pet cats... they don't have to hunt during the night, but it's still fucking gross abuse. I bet noone would like glowing in the dark, no matter what they are.

Who cares if housecats glow in the dark? I suppose it might be inconvenient if they try to sleep next to you at night, but if it doesn't harm them...

Yeah. We already have reason to believe that the tortoises can feel the handles (and assorted other problems), but if I remember correctly the glowcats grew that way, having been... shall we say, manipulated to do so while still very much incapable of pain.

It just doesn't compare.

Alright I have a much better idea. Introduce glowing mouse DNA. If it actually lasts from one generation to the next, it would make the rodent population in some cities easier to control when you can see them coming. Plus then they have the same disadvantage as the kitties.

What I'm wondering is how tortoise handles and glowcats relate to HAPPY FACE.

<Mega-Mario> if I were to make a board software I'd even add security against him
<Mega-Mario> like, if there are two threads by him that are entitled "happy face"
<Mega-Mario> IP ban him
<GreyMaria> Nobody should have to ever post a thread entitled "HAPPY FACE"

Immaturity, or something like that.
