For the new ones to this hack, Megaman Forever is a Mega Man 4 hack i have been working on since 2006.
The main site for it is here: http://megaman4unnamed.livejournal.com All videos, screenshots and previous demos released off it can be found there. Download!: http://acmlm.no-ip.org/uploader/get.php?id=3342 Also, for those interested, here is a PAL version: http://acmlm.no-ip.org/uploader/get.php?id=3343 The PAL one has some more timing issues with IRQs and so on, but it fixes the sound pitch and tempos. Both IPS are to be applied to Mega Man 4 (U). "Demo 3" means this is the third demo in total. "Unabridged Demo 1", released May last year, was the second. The 8 main stages are not 100% complete, but all of them should be playable from start to end, including battles with the robot masters. You can't play the later stages. (unless you cheat). Offshore Fortress 1 will appear on stage select but its messy. Since the last demo, Solar Man has been renamed to "Photon Man" (becouse of Mega Man 10), and Timing Man has been given the new, much better name "Chrono Man". A list of notable changes from Unabridged Demo 1:
Another feature i think did not exist in the last demo (i don't remember) is that you can now buy items by pressing B on Stage Select. All items (should) work, except Weapon Tank, which is not implemented yet. A note for those who own a PowerPak and would like to play this, unfortunately it seems impossible to have MMC3 games which has both CHR-RAM and Save RAM. So saving/loading does not seem to work, even if it does in any emulator. The password system is completely broken so don't rely on it at all. When the ROM boots, it may show a brief blue screen or red screen. A blue screen means SRAM has been detected and has been reset. It should never show again once the save file has been generated. A red screen means that SRAM for some reason does not exist, games cannot be saved. Finnaly, enjoy. |

Oh sweet. Going to try this soon. If your track record is any indicator, this is going to be quite the experience. ____________________ Back from the beyond. |

I hope this all dont sound stupid, and it prob wont ever matter to anyone, or anyone even notice but something i noticed that really bugs me. and i know it's too late for me to say since you already released your demo, but im going to apply this change to the rom and click save on the hex editor while i play anyway.
When opening and closing the pause menu, it sounds like there's some kind of static hiccup. At first i thought like something's wrong with my sound or my computer is lagging or something. So i repeatedly open and close the menu like 20 times and keep hearing it. I go test in nintendulator and nestopia emulators - same thing. I was still scared it was my comp and NOT your game...but i did a little research with fceuxd hex editor. I compared your sound effect data to megaman 5's. It checks out OK. So that's not it. i disable the music from playing so i only hear sound effects. that dont help. I then change megaman's shooting noise to the pause menu, i do not hear this static thing. Soooo i traced your code and found the cause of this problem. You write some numbers to the $4011 register when opening/closing. When open you do a 7F to 4011, when closed, you do a 00 to 4011..i have no idea in the world what it means, but i NOP'd those writes out, and the static hiccup no longer happens anymore thankfully. So it was not anything wrong with my comp after all. what the heck is that about ?? im just curious |

$4011 is a register which has an effect on the triangle and noise sound channels. It can be used to somewhat reduce the volume of Triangle, but it will do Noise at the same time. You can't hear the difference in most emulators, but FCEUX supports it. It does work on hardware. I used it to add an extra "fade down" impression for the weapon menu. Additionally, its used on the Password bgm.
The popping is a side-effect by changing the value straight from 00 to 7F and back.. or not exactly side-effect, the register works that way. Maybe in the future i will try something to reduce the pop. |

Just a few things I want to say. The bossdoor to Chrono Man doesn't work, also many grafics in the game are a mess through bugs and glitches.
Not to forget if you get killed by Boil Man there is a chance that the game will freeze. Odd is it that the palettes changes if you reappear after death in the room before the boss appears. The warning is black instead of red for example. Matrixz, your game isn't bad at all, but it still needs work. Also I recommend to use more different tiles to make this game to a true feast for the eyes. @everyone Could someone make a recorded playthrough for the sake of finding more of these flaws? It would make it for Matrixz a lot more easier to complete the game. ____________________ I was a prisoner enclosed in the void, were everything might end up just as myself. I used the NTSC patch to (U) for PRG0 and it works fine. That was a great demo so far. But what's with the large energy capsule during Photon Man battle? What's it do?

it's a great romhack this time to. altough, as pointed out, there are alot more to work on. i liked chrono man's stage alot more this time! it was funnier and looked better then in the last demo. ow, dont know if you know about it, but 2 glitches i found was that the first boss(intro stage) had wrong tileset first, then it changed. and the bossdoors into him aint correct working. just so you know, cause i suppose there is like thousands of things to fix and look after when making a hack this big |

I know about many of those problems mentioned. They appear at random when i change or add something. It is one of the things with romhacking that makes it a job full of sighs.
Posted by Thanatos-Zero The bossdoor to Chronoman does work, you need to walk a little away from the door and then approach it. Posted by mickevincent I know about the 1st, but i don't know what you mean with the other one. Posted by Insectduel As the sportsman he is, Photon Man simply wants a fair fight.. be grateful I appreciate the feedback. |

I played it again. The game freezes after some time along with heavy grafic glitches, when I'm fighting Chrono Man in his bossroom. ____________________ I was a prisoner enclosed in the void, were everything might end up just as myself. This is quite neat stuff! The new changes make the game so much more playable; Blow Cyclone, a weapon that doesn't do damage, is one of my favorites in the game which I didn't think to be possible. A few of the bosses have cool ideas like Propel Man, Solar Man and Chemic Man; some are glitchy but I understand it's still in a demo mode.
My only real gripes with the hack are I think Chemic Man's level is a tad too difficult-- neat idea, but sometimes the way the level is set up is slightly frustrating. Chrono Man's level is also neat but again, a bit on the mind boggling to irritating side. Nothing that can't be fixed though-- overall, it is looking very impressive. I plan to try and do another playthrough as soon as I get my other computer back so I can showcase just how much effort you alone (Matrixz) have put toward the hack. (In case you're wondering, I'm the one who did a playthrough of six of your stages when the unabridged demo was released) I saw what people put on qzecwx's video of the bosses and such negative reception caused you to cancel the account, but I say screw every one of them. If they had half the idea how hard it is to ROM hack, they would be much more appreciate of your work instead of going down your throat. Yes, criticism is appreciated, but it needs to be constructive and not just plain bashing and what they don't realize is that you don't HAVE to do any of this-- it's completely a hobby and you're expecting nothing in return other than satisfy people who love Mega Man. It's become a rat race especially with MI around the corner but you're still doing a superb job and if others are blind to that, they're selfish punks who take everything for granted and can't stop to appreciate what is GOOD in the hack. This same thing happened to Infidelity and Mega Man Ultra 2, not necessarily the same scenario but it all boils down to people being ungrateful. But I say that you shouldn't give up unless you've completely lost passion in your hack. People always ridicule others for their talent when many of the times, they lack such skills to perform as well as the people they mock. It could also be jealousy, but regardless, you've shown everyone that you are an incredible ROM hacker and have strived for one of your dreams. You've put so much effort into your hack and it would be mortifying to see you drop the ball so close to the finish line because people in the audience are throwing some rocks at you. I'll just sum this up by saying even though I have reservations about you resigning on your hack, I respect your decision and ultimately have no say in what you do. But know that there are decent people out there who truly cherish your hard work and will support you to the finish. I'm not a good ROM hacker by any means but if you need assistance, I'll utilize what little skills I have to help you reach your goal. なんくるないさ〜 Everything will be fine |

I'm kind of tired of things right now, but..
Yes the reception did upset me.. or should i say, i realized that it doesn't help me feel more motivated. The internet is such a messy place, and more and more i have been realizing it is difficult to draw motivation from whatever e-mails, replies, comments people make, whetever its good or bad. I feel its wrong when everyone is now saying that i am doing this only out of frustration because of the comments it gets like on qzecwx's video. That did make me a little mad, but i would have done this regardless. I have been considering canceling for a while. Like i said on the journal, its so much work. There's another factor, that my real life's situation is rather sad, the work on the romhack doesn't really make a change to that so i have been thinking about doing more rewarding things.. if i continue i risk to work myself short. I appreciate the understanding, you are right, i think the expectations made to romhacks seem just too much.. maybe its because once romhacks cross the border between a plain hack and a real game, people start comparing them to original/official games. I would also like to hear what in my hack should have rather been done, what i supposedly should have done to make it better. Im glad for the cheering on i might now get but i don't think i will change my mind. Its not on "definately cancelled", i might do something on the project once in a while.. about future releases i can't say anything for sure. |

i saw those comments and i can certainly say its just out of jelousy. there are many many many hacks out there that are complete horseshit but they can get very good comments and such. so its absolutely because you making people uppset that they cant do what you do by themself.
the only thing you should have done different was to not realese any demo at all, just wait until it's finnished. cause then people will have even more things to get jelous about and then it will just sound ironic. well i think you should just take a brake. sometimes i dont do anything on my hack for weeks, months. then when i finaly starts again it goes so much better! |

I just tried the demo. Well I tried all 3 demos and I enjoy the hack. I guess this is why people tend to keep their propjects secret untill close to release date. I haven't read what people think, but if it's on youtube, expect people to do what they can to suck the life out of somebody.
I think what gets me is that people who are not rom hackers don't appereciate what goes into to creating a hack from start to finish. Back in the old days, the standards were alot lower, and stuff like Zelda Challenge was extra special in that it wasn't a Mario hack with a penis. Nowadays everybody expects amatures to release content like a professional. I blame XBLA and stuff like that for a lack of apperciation for what it takes to make a great hack. Perhaps why I end up never releasing stuff is because people don't care about all the cool new things you add. All they care about is that it has different graphics and isn't too hard. Anyway, hacking is supposed to be about having fun. I mean, it sure don't pay the bills, does it? If the fun is gone, then a break is certainly in order. Real life should always come first. I cheer for anybody who is out to make a new game out of an old classic. You know for all those whining idiots who have no patience there are many more who are estatic just to play a Megaman game where you can screen transition to the left and take multiple paths. Is rom hacking a dyng art? |

Jigglysaint, you are abosolutely right. Real life should always come first but my romhacking days are already over since December 2009. It's August 2010 and I still did not get my hard drive back. It's going to Windows 7 once it's upgraded but how long did the tech-guy keeps my DELL Desktop PC. About January 2011.
I did have my existing project but I still never got to release it yet and I want to since Christmas. Because my computer began to reboot by itself, ROM-Hacking isn't fun for me anymore. As of right now, Mega Man 4 Dr. Light's Conquest remains canceled. I enjoy life as much as I needed, like meeting my Japanese cosplay singer Reni Mimura every month. That's something I do for my entertainment. I am willing to buy the Sakura CD next event which is $10. Anyway, Mega Man IV hacking and Super Mario Bros. 2 Japanese seems like a good experience for me but the 2nd MegaMan IV project going to take a long time for me to finish. Especially if I were doing some hard coded ASM work for weapons and boss AI work. Some guys like Chiko makes me mad sometimes. Not if Chiko is a high-school student (like in the teens) but completes his own hacks less than 2 months (due to borrowing other people's work). That's something I cannot catch up due to real life adult problems and too much programming work for a guy like me. |

Thanks Jeffrey
There is some problems with the project, which i think would make it impossible to make it truly complete. Like limitations to the original game engine. Right now i feel i should make up my mind about what to really do with this.. |
