I have been beginning to enjoy reading through visual novels recently and I was curious if other board2 members shared this interest with me. I tried to play Eien no Aselia - Kono Daichi no Hate de earlier today, but the awkward RPG system and extremely slow-moving plot put me off. I was going to try to apply the partial translation patch for Fate/hollow ataraxia, but I got distracted and never got around to it. After finishing up Umineko Episode 6 recently, I'm at a loss for what to read next.

I'm sort of tempted to re-read Wanko to Kurasou, but I'm not really sure why. I guess the characters are just too adorable to resist.

Perhaps I shall begin reading Kira☆Kira. It seems decent enough.

I'm nearly all the way through F/SN's Fate route (although I didn't get around to progress lately, I used it to great effect to procrastinate through exam preparation) and have been enjoying it so far (in spite of the protagonist being a raging dickhead).

Furthermore, I have been considering trying Saya no Uta for a long time; it has a tremendous reputation.

If F/SN's translation (which I had a brief glimpse at) is of any indication, English translation patches for that kind of games seem to be rather bad. It's not that they are outright incorrect, just that the translators' command of and eloquence in English does not seem remotely adequate to convey the sesquipedalian loquaciousness of the original, making the product sound comparatively dull, linguistically uninteresting and repetitive.

What kinda games is this, anyway. I'm not sure I understand what "galges" and "nukiges" mean.

It sounds like some kind of, uh, hentai-ish games.

It's just what Kiro said, a visual novel. It's got pictures and text and you click to proceed. As for the hentai part, talk to Kiro about that.

I'll probably read Umineko when my connection stops dropping every fifteen minutes.

Saya no Uta was, I believe, my very first visual novel. Although short, the atmosphere it evoked with its CGs and music was quite haunting, making for an exceptional late-night (or early-morning) read.

Shirou was exceptionally annoying in the Fate route, although he does improve significantly in the other two routes.

As much as I'd like to try one out, the fact that the majority of them likely ARE eroges generally makes me shy away from ever doing it.

Barring the Phoenix Wright games, of course, but those hardly count.

Seriously, though, given that my first impression of Metal Slug were bishoujo characters being used in somebody's layout (Ice Man's, I think, perhaps even back in the days when he still was "Hidden Mario"), I'm not at all surprised, and don't even see how it is supposed to be particularly revolting, unless some of the posters in that forum are crew cut commando-wannabe types who find it outrageous to see the troops defiled with that kind of thing.

I reckon there must be some meaning to the part from the waist down being covered by the touchscreen...
