Here's an old example of one:

Modem 3-D (Dos)

For some reason I can't find it anywhere online, but, was a tank game that was I think second, or third person, and you could play against others over the modem.

Anyone else remember this?

If not, please mention a game to keep this thread alive.

(Hope this is okay, as far as I read it is.)

Sorry, it doesn't ring a bell for me. =(

One of the first games I had with my NES, and was also one of my most influential shmup games, was Image Fight. I played that so many times and I eventually beat it without continuing. Never completed the second loop though because I was afraid my NES would overheat.

Semi-relatedly, there was this game I used to play on a Sega machine they had on display in a clothing department store my mom used to drag me into when I was 9 or so. The only thing I recalled about it was that there was some level named "Burning Hamlet" where a giant fireball chased after you and you could not proceed with the game even if you passed the level if you had started on a too low difficulty. For years, if not a whole decade, I had thought it was some obscure Sonic spinoff and given up all hope of ever finding it again (partly because I had low awareness of alternative meanings of "Hamlet" and thought I might have mistaken some other, similar word for the Shakespearean character in my youthful folly).

Like one year ago, I went looking again and successfully identified the game as High Seas Havoc.

Very nice. I had something similar happen.

There was a game I used to rent all the time, with dinosaurs, I always LOVED the music in the game, but couldn't find it.

I finally (And just recently) after looking over a few games with dinosaurs, and finally found "Dino City" was the game I was looking for.

Also (Dragging my post from the other thread):

Does anyone remember a dos game where you control 3 different guys (All at once), each with different guns, in an over head shoot em up game, I can't remember the name of it anymore.

It was originally on the Night owl BBS. (A long long time ago).

It was for DOS.

Anyone remember the name/own it?

I can't really remember much more than that.

You controlled all three guys at once.

(It was meant for three players, but, you could do it with 1.)

There was an old game for Mac OS (8?) that's name was 'Grunt'. It was about some pig who searched for emerald pieces.
It can't be found anywhere on the internet :<

Well, I'm not sure what it's called but I think this may be able to help you if you're willing to dig a lot. I found an old Galaga clone on here that I used to play a lot.

Just yesterday I finally completed a part of my childhood I never thought I would. I used to have a Sega Genesis until it got wrecked in a flood. I always used to play Sonic 3 and I always kinda sucked at it. Anyway, my friend let me borrow his Xbox 360 and he has Sonic 3 on it. I started playing and found I am much better than I was as a child. I collected all seven chaos emeralds and finally marked a chapter of my childhood as complete.

Faceball 2000 for the Gameboy.

All I got to say about it is that I need to find 15 more people with that game and figure out how to hook them all up together.

I used to play the crap out of that game as a kid, but eventually I just forgot all about it. Then one day recently, I was reading something about the game Midi Maze (which Faceball was a remake of) and it all came flooding back.

Hmm. It sounds like Blast Doors to me. Could you also buy weapons and stuff between rounds?

I loved this game.

Oh wow! There's a TON of games there. There's like over 40 CDs or more to go through. But thanks. I'm gonna do that in my spare time.

I remember not knowing the name for Hyper Zone for 15 years, until when I was playing games randomly on zSnes and found it. That's the only kind of history like this I remember. =X It owned to find out though .

Man, I've asked all over the internet

I'm beginning to think that this question is unanswerable

But hey might as well put it down again

Anyone remember an old DOS-based Boulder Dash clone with:
- two different types of expanding slime ("plasma"?) which can expand at different rates
- a level editor, accessed through one of the F keys (F1-F12)
- level skip keys (also the F keys)
- I think the first level involves a lot of down left up left down left up left through snaking three-tile-tall corridors.

For the life of me, I wish I could remember this old game's name... I can only remember vague things about it, too, so I dunno if anyone would be able to identify it, but it's worth a shot.

-It's an old DOS game.

-It's a side scrolling puzzle adventure game that has a little jetpack wearing dude as the playable character.

I used to love this game when I was a kid and I wish I could get my hands on it again to play in DOSBox.

Funny thing is, the game's name you ARE looking for is called jetpack.

I wish I knew about Jetpack turning freeware much earlier, I used to jump through hoops to have several custom levels saved at once (shareware edition only allowed you to have one custom level, but in practice you could get around that with file renaming).

I remember seeing a boulder dash clone on a giant disk with PC Shareware games from a PC magazine for fifteen years ago, containing Win16 and DOS shareware games (needless to say, I can probably expect to only be able to run the most basic DOS games).

I should dig up said disk and see if I find it. Might be your boulder dash clone, or not.

I used to do the same thing. .BAT files were a huge time saver during those days.

I downloaded and loaded it up. Unfortunately, it's not the game I remember. I'll try to dig through that archive to see if I can find it, because I distinctly remember it was a DOS game. Thanks.

EDIT: I think I found it! The game was Captain Comic.

Yeah, Supaplex is fun, but the game I'm thinking of is definitely mine-themed. Dirt and all.

Could it be Paganitzu?

I found info at HOTU. I used to play the game, but, the site there doesn't distribute it.
