I made a big wall of text about this somewhere else, but here's a picture:



As mentioned by 'Kev, that space wasn't used by anything at all before, but still, I have some unused space on the top part of the browser, that doesn't mean I'll go and install spyware so it is used for something. That's how the new Google feels like to me, specially when most of that functionality was provided before, just optional.

I have resorted to setting the language to Pirate to solve the problem, what about you? Do you consider it a problem? Are you the first person I've met that actually likes the change?

I wasn't too thrilled when google made those changes, and the links on the left are kinda bing'ish to me, meaning that the google search results page feels like I'm using bing search, but probably me experiencing this similar behaviour.

And as pointed out above I'm using 'all' instead, though pirate does look yarr harr fiddle tee good, perhaps I should try it out.

Well, one of Google's strong points (and arguably the one that gave it an edge over Altavista, Yahoo and others) was that instead of the colourful clutter of the competition, it had a simple, fast-loading, easy on resources no-bullshit layout...

I suppose their position is established well enough now that a bit of Web 2.0 idiocy isn't going to hurt them.

The only thought I have is that it could be on the right side so it would be less in the way (since you read from left to right), but other than that it's not a big deal for me.
