I just found out the coolest bit of info on one of the Another charts in PIU. You want a gimmick? This is one hell of a cool gimmick.

Random thought of the day - I just learned LIADZ2 Another NM is A - Cz and A - hard next to each other.

What? It is? Huh...

Yes. And there's more to it than that.

Crazy is on the left (whose steps follow the drums in the song) and Hard is on the right (whose steps follow the guitars in the song). The song's music is altered to where all drum sounds come from the left side of the machine and all guitar sounds come from the right, completely split up. It's a gimmick as if two people are playing two different songs at the same time while still synchronized in a way.

If that's not awesome I don't know what is.

You mean the one in the keyboard pack? What sucks about it, aside from LOL POWER METAL?

I dunno if it was in a keyboard pack.

It's Skor's, it's Rhapsody (which really isn't too bad), and it's 180BPM 16th note runs to the end of time throughout the whole damned song.

I got done sightread Aing it and wanted my four minutes back.

I like the song on its own, but the steps aren't that great. Everyone assumes Rhapsody = keyboard only with 16th note runs thoughout. Holy Thunderforce is hella awesome as well in song, but the steps are iffy.

Although I haven't even loaded up Stepmania in like... 2 weeks...

PIU is very... interesting, to say the least. FS is very fun once you get the hang of it. Although... nothing beats Random Steps. Oh god, the stretching. Hitting 1 on P1 and hitting 9 on P2 hurts like hell! Of course, going quickly from one pad to the other side of the other just to return back in less than a second is bad as well...
Oh well. Hopefully I'll get to talk to the manager next time and get the top speakers in working order. My Brother Is Street Singer is near silent...

Heck, if I wanted straight runs, I'd do Quasar.

Even that's boring these days after FCing (nearly AAAing) it.

Now do it on pad rofl.

ALSO: Stepmakers out there, have you had any experience with this? How's it compare with the SM3.9 editor? In looking at the screenshot, I see a waveform viewer overlaid on the editor, which seems like it'd be pretty damn useful.

Any particular reason for that? If nothing else, I'd figure it'd be helpful for figuring out syncing of stuff.

Why did I know before I looked that you would ask that? Hahhh...

DD and I took a look at it hoping that it was as good as it claimed. To be brutally honest, it's not nearly as user-friendly as it should be and...for all practical purposes...it does nothing about what it claims to do in terms of helping the sync...at least by anything we could figure out. DD would be the one to tell you that he could just as easily make StepMania do that and a wave editor is practically all it looks like. In that case, do what we always have: use a wave editor, Goldwave.

You'd be better off using 3.95's editor. At least with that you have a way to put rolls in if you absolutely need them. The only problem is they tend to fuck up simfiles a lot in terms of getting the Voltage right (usually reads 0). They've all sucked since the end of 3.9.

For better or worse, I made the leap and submitted a simfile to BemaniStyle.

Okay, read your comments. Let's see.

Thanks for "not a bad start", first of all. I assume most starts are, um, bad. So yeah.

I'm still completely artistically retarded, but I'll try and come up with a background/better banner for whatever I do next. I found paint.net yesterday. Not quite as full-featured as Photoshop, but it should do for my abilities.

As for the steps themselves, like I said with one of the files I didn't release, it doesn't compensate for being offsync by using random 32nds or 48ths, which puts it ahead of most first-time submissions. As far as the offset goes, I don't remember if I did that accidentally when hitting random F keys trying to remember which set was tempo, or if it was a natural product of my global offset in SM, but I'll note it for next time. Flow-wise, I wanted to make sure the whole thing could be done alternating feet without a problem, and I think I accomplished that.

Difficulty-wise, maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but it seems to me that most of the focus is on OMG HARDER LONGER STREAM FASTER TEMPO!! and there's not enough out there for the casual player, or the person who likes the game but for whatever reason never progressed to AAAing tens or quadstarring 12s or whatnot. So I definitely plan to try and do stuff that has a full difficulty spectrum.

Could have been worse. You could have done something like the intro to Mega Man 3 by yourself on your first entry.

That was a doozy to sync right but the steps flowed awfully and I only had one stage (a supposed 10, which came out to be more of an 8 or 9). The graphics I had with it were ridiculous and I can only guess how close the sync was on it. I've never re-uploaded it. :\

And yea, you had the BPM down correctly it's just that little extra bump showed me that you might have mistakenly pressed F12 a few times. Wasn't anything big.

As for editors, I know that DD is big on GIMP.

And as for difficulty...hey...whatever works really. If you're good in a particular area I would focus on that. That's generally what I do but my range of sims go from 1-14 footers. Most of the time I'm going to have something like a 1-4-7-9-11-footer file released when I do mine. That seems to be my norm anymore, at least.

Hey SWR, what theme is that, and does it come with different arrow noteskins? I installed and then uninstalled Groove 2.2 on my SM awhile back, and it's basically busted now (Flat is one of the few noteskins that actually works). Oops.

Lol hlep lol.

EDIT: I tried GIMP awhile back. Pretty well-featured, but clearly not Windows native. Stuff may have changed since I last tried it, though.

Ow, my skin. So much for ego.

And that's Techno Fiend, EE. Very good theme indeed. I do believe it comes with an additional noteskin if you so choose to use it (A2, I believe).

Techno Fiend no. That is what I believe to be SM 4.0, which uses AJ's system zero theme. It only works with 3.9 though as far as I know. He is also working on a minimalia theme, which is basically a grayscale theme that is very minimal and very interesting.

Techno Fiend is a lot more different. More BGAnimations and various toasties and easter eggs.
