Last view: 5083 days 		I have a friend that can speak German (his native language) and he can speak really good English.

My native language is English and I hope to learn German someday, and maybe more languages also.

To help myself learn German at an easy pace, I admittedly have watched some youtube videos to see how German is actually spoken and I have read an English-to-German dictionary at my local library on some occasions as well, though not as often as I would like to. At this present time I still only know the German alphabet.

In any case, I recommend immersion if possible, and trying to "think" in the language as you use it.

For example, don't think of what you want to say in English first, then translate. Just try to say what you want to say without over-thinking. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, the thinking part definitively is important. You can get a lot of otherwise hard to come by practice through inner monologue (or dialogue, if you are thus inclined), too.

I speak english. It's my first language, but I'm not sure it's going to be my only language. I can see learning Spanish because of this country's reliance on it, and maybe Japanese so I don't have to get jealous when games come out in Japan before they do here in the States.

I really do see a difference in coherence between the various languages the people speak. The way languages are structured has a lot to do with the way the brain thinks.
