Seeing threads with 56K warnings starts to bug me, and I'm actually really curious if we really need to consider the bandwidth of people nowadays.

And as a general rule of thumb, just pick the one closest to your speed. If you have 8 mbit, just select 10 mbit.

University connection that peaks between 3 and 5 MB/s, so I suppose it's "above 10mbit".

I get 12Mbit/s out of mine. If they didn't run digital Tv on the same line I'd get close to maximum which is around 20Mbit. I have "up to" 24Mbit/s.

Theoretically, 25mbit down max, various speed tests seem to average near 20mbit though...

I have 24Mbit steady. I have a close acquaintance relationship (slightly less than friends) with the mayor and I have been talking to him about my neighborhood taking part of this newfangled Google fiber network. Those speeds reach 1Gbps.

Also, how many people are there in your constituency?

We're acquainted due to us being a member of the same congregation of our church. This was after election. Oh, and price for this magical line is about the same as what normal cable is offering their service for.

I don't really know what qualifies as a "neighborhood" but within our block... I'd say about 200 people.

I meant the number of people who get to be asked whether the person in question gets to be mayor or not, i.e. some kind of measure for the significance of his mayorhood.

That being said, I wasn't aware you were a church-goer.

I am completely oblivious to those numbers. I have no idea what those variables are. And yeah, I am, but you don't typically make that kind of stuff known for fear of condescension and scrutiny come upon you in the form of internet hellfire.

But, on topic, I doubt I'm getting the speed I should be due to this wireless network and my unsatisfactory proximity to it. Other solutions are impractical, so I'm stuck with what I have.

In Mexico 2Mbit = 1.76Mbit

But still, I can download a movie at top quality while I'm watching the one I've downloaded, so unless I decide to watch two movies simultaneously I don't feel like needing more speed.

Uh, what are you talking about? Watching a downloaded movie doesn't affect your internet connection at all.

I actually get a much better connection to California than locally, which is probably due to the other end being better. In fact, I get almost as good a connection to Japan as to their server in Phoenix. (O_o)

At any rate...I used to get 10 MB/s (MByte, not Mbit!) download from some servers while I was in a dorm in college (at least in the morning when everyone else was asleep), so this cable connection is a step down from that.

Fly to the coins

Wow, crazy fast connections. Mine's fine for my level of service.

It depends on the server with which I connect in terms of ping (I'll never ever ever get below 60ms) but my connection download speed bobs between 2.8Mbit to 3.2Mbit.

My upload speed is much worse though.

I was talking about my ability to watch movies at top quality non stop, if I wish so, that I didn't have at 1Mbit/s speed, where I don't see a point of a 4Mbit/s speed, since I don't download >4GB files anyway.

Whatever my download speed is I'm glad it's good. I just don't spend all my time on the computer to know all this stuff.
