Yeah...

<blackhole89> > In response, the Protect Act narrows the prohibition to
cover only depictions that the defendant’s community would consider “obscene.”

<blackhole89> how is "the defendant's community" defined

I alos like how the article states what seven mangas are in question here...

...I'm gonna go download 'em

I wonder if he will also have to register as a sexual offender. If that is the case, from what I heard, this might be the significantly more severe, compared to the 6 months of jail time, part of the sentence.

It seems like, in Western countries, you can pass pretty much everything nowadays if you successfully appeal to people's sense of public moral order, which is very effectively achieved if they perceive their notions of purity (i.e. children) as under attack. I'd contend the number of people who actually give two shits about the children is minuscule compared to the number of people who are appalled at the idea of someone getting off to them; if you consider that, regulations on "drawn child pornography" don't seem all that surprised anymore.

They probably mean his literal community, that he lives in.

Also:

* Kono Man_ ga Sugoi! (This Man_ is Awesome!) by Makafusigi (Seraphim Comics)

I'm pretty sure that's not something you want to go to jail for...

I don't think "Man_" refers to the English word. It's more likely to be a reference to a Japanese colloquialism for female genitalia with the last syllable censored out, which would make it awwwright with the Christians again.

Also, would that imply that, if you founded a community with anything-goes people, you would be fine to wank at whatever you want again?

They probably broaden it to the city or even the state.

Our government is fucked up anyway and I plan on moving to Canadaland sometime.

(insert obligatory comment about dying in real life here)

Seriously, though, I would be surprised if Canada's legislation is any more lenient in that regard (or most others). (Consider also that "banned in Canada" predates this by far.) It's just that negative news from there don't generally create nearly as much of an echo on the internet as ones from the US.

At least Canada isn't the United States.

It must take a lot of cognitive dissonance to agree with the separation of the private and public as well as upholding morality by impinging upon other's privacy. Thankfully people are very good at compartmentalization.

Yeah, you've been talking about that for years now.

Let us know when you're actually gone.
