From what I get, when you type your reply, after a second or two the background turns white.

Are you, by any chance, using Internet Explorer 6?

If you are, two solutions are available:
- don't use it (RECOMMENDED with prejudice)
- switch to a theme that doesn't rely on PNG transparency (edit profile, pick e.g. Miner's Lament)

Right under Options, Theme.

Also, you don't have to buy other browsers. Firefox is free, at least. I think Opera is, too, but not sure...

Free as gratis yes, free as in freedom... no. For alternatives away from Firefox, I find Google Chrome to be a more intresting open source... if somewhat controversial browser (then there's the privacy-focused forks).

If I remember correctly, alphablended PNGs would be rendered on a solid gray backing. About 50% gray IIRC. But regardless, that would not, I imagine, make the background in Daily Cycle 2.0 look like "some crumpled paper", let alone "so brite".

Someone who seems incapable of telling a browser from a color scheme should not be assumed to know what browser version he's running -- note that he never specifically said it was IE6, only that it was IE, and even then there was doubt.
