How do I check if I have them?
Can a sensitive firewall that asks for all internet access before letting a program use the internet block it?

Many paranoid firewalls will block any unknown programs. I use COMODO firewall, which is fairly paranoid as it asks for user consent on many well known programs.

Well I got my firewall to ask for consent on any new programs.

Last year my computer had BSODs but now it's pretty much perfectly fine so I'm just making sure everything is ok.

It can, but not in the general case. If you got a keylogger running with administrator rights, it can do anything on your machine including rootkitting itself out of your sight and past most security software you might have. It -is- possible to detect the presence of those indirectly from within the system, but far from straightforward.

One thing I would try is probably sniffing my packets. Either through a "man in the middle" or directly on the computer. Wireshark works good.

Those can be due to overheating.

those can be due to most anything. you would need to have the minidumps from the bluescreens to figure out exactly what caused them. if on the off chance you do still have the minidumps from when you were having problems, i would happily have a look for you. they should be in c:\windows\minidump(s?)

e:
and, yes, wireshark isn't a bad idea if you think something like that may be happening.

They did happen in SUMMER I think.
They eventually never happened again and my computer seems pretty fine.
