I saw this ad at the bottom of the main page:

If the game is as good as your spelling I'm not interested.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

There was a period where those ads were trying to get you downloading cursors/updates/whatever that were actually trojans. I saw one saying:

Posted by the crappy update ad
Your an unknown operating system may need an update.

Click here to update.

I was using Windows Vista. That ad only recognized up to WinXP apparently.
Of course I didn't click it. Would you let a program install an update on your computer when it doesn't even know what OS you are using?

Let's paly New Super Mario Bros Wii now!

Heh, I never see ads on here, the SSL mode doesn't have any ads.

What is the purpose of SSL, by the way? It isn't like any sensitive data are being transferred anyway... wait...

  <input type=hidden name=name value=[your name]>
<input type=hidden name=passenc value=[your password's MD5]>

From the new reply page.

Argh!
*Mega-Mario clicks that little padlock icon at the left of the clock...

Edit: that SSL thingy is really unstable. Sometimes some parts of some pages aren't encrypted for some reason. I don't really trust it...

The parts that aren't encrypted are offsite images in people's post layouts.

The SSL thing still encrypts all connections between your computer and the board; the only information that can leak through those insecure parts is the URL of the page called (via the Referer header passed to images etc. linked in by layouts). Besides, when you log in, your plaintext password -is- transmitted to the board.

And either way, encrypted connections are a good thing simply because they add to the amount of encrypted data = line noise going back and forth on the internet, thus spoiling the party of whoever taps wires and collects information and making it easier for those who actually have sensitive data to transmit to hide in the masses. You can't distinguish encrypted sedition from encrypted one-letter swap threads.
