Even if he merges them, he's still coming close to the edge of his drive, so it's more of a clean up or upgrade situation. Upgrading might be best, especially if the drive is a few years old. 120GB is surprisingly quick to fill up nowadays, what with all the HD rips, enormous games and other crap you see around.

Me too, more or less. When I come across stuff I think they may be useful to me someday, I always keep them on my HDD.
Happily I have stopped saving every image in every website I visit a while ago.

Well, not every image. But images I thought they might be interesting. I had especially tons of smileys retrieved from forums. But also some website banners, backgrounds, and other random stuff.

I once - under Win2k - downloaded that little "i" icon on the "IE cannot display this page" error page, and set it as my wallpaper, in stretch mode. I could change it on my desktop, but never ever managed to get it out of the login screen background.

My mother does this.

Then she asks why her hard drive is full.

I rofl'd.

The first computer I had had a 6gb HDD. I wonder how I never did get it full. Today, it'd be full since a long while.

I don't remember how much my first 2 PC compatibles had but it must've been less than a GB. Next one was 3GB (1.99GB sdlfasldfhafhwoidfhpww Windows 95, yes I'm aware that I could've repartitioned/formatted it, but I didn't have the shit to do it.), then 9.45GB or something along those lines. After that it just ballooned ridiculously until now at 1.5TB+80GB.

It was funny having an 80GB drive on dialup. That just did not fill up at all until I had DSL. Once I had good internet, though, it just got a bit out of hand until I got the 1.5TB drive, which is definitely good for now.

My internal HDD is 160GB. But I've got an external one which is 1TB

Also, I have a SSD which is 64GB. But after I installed Windows Seven on it, a problem, thatformerly would happen only from times to times, started happening every day. And each time I'd have to take the Seven DVD and repair it. So I got pissed off and reinstalled everything on the other (160GB) HDD.

You're an idiot for even thinking it was a good idea to put an operating system on an SSD. SSDs may read faster, but they wear out a LOT faster than any other type of disk, because it's not magnetic disks inside, it's like a giant flash drive that uses bit switches to hold data, which makes them less durable because the switches wear out.

Hey, calm down! I didn't know at the time I got that SSD. Now I know. Experimenting (aka trial-and-error) is one way to learn things, you know.

Anyway I'm not using that SSD anymore, now that I learnt it's unreliable.

I have Windows 7 installed om my SSD with swap, supercache and indexing disabled on it. I also have my Linux partition on it, with a few directories that have a lot of variable data symlinked to the hard disk drive.

So it's not entirely impossible to run an OS on an SSD, it just requires a bit of care.

I have Ubuntu on my External HDD but I can't boot it because the GOD DAMM bootloader won't work.

Possible, but you most likely will meet the same issues I met, just later.

That sure can be fixed. Google is your best friend

are you joking? that's what solid state drives are for. as an added bonus, windows 7(and possibly vista?) detects when it's on an ssd and will adjust defragging(pretty much turn it off) and other os functions accordingly. i have to get to work so i can't go into it now, but you ought to do some reading on the subject.

Anyway, SSDs, as well as any other kind of FLASH memory, have limited write cycles, so even if it's a pretty high number, they're bound to break someday. (Not that 'normal' HDDs never break, tho...)

Though, FRAM has unlimited write cycles, afaik, but loses data earlier.

yes, limited. thats why 7(vista also?) turns off defragging along with many other optimizations.
