So with the recent update involving player bullets, I jumped for joy and immediately made the Gradius staple "options", as many of you may have seen in the youtube video below. (of course if you hadn't, thinking it was just a 401 run, eeenk, watch the whole video.)

Well, that's fine and dandy, but I decided to do more, and much much more with it. Below are examples of 6 different 'option' types I made, and each of their functions. But how do they work in-game? Clearly there's no variable-relative items and ship functions in Fraxy yet, right? Here's where it gets interesting.

Every time you die, an option appears, doing whatever its type assignment is. As such, die 2 times, 2 options, etc., all the way up to 4 options. So what happens if you die a 5th time or more? Overdrive. The screen is bombarded with blasters in a pattern specific to the option type, clearing the better part of the screen of most, if not all enemies. (500 damage a blaster, and 15 shots per option... 30,000 damage total. Woah.) Additionally, each option type has a secondary function upon using a support item (overloader, sol diffuser, etc.)

So what are the types?

F-Type

"F" being "Follow", of course. The Gradius staple. What's its secondary function?

All options retract to the player-ship, of course! A single, focused stream of bullets. Can you say "Laser"?

The overdrive is focused directly in front of the ship in an oval, essentially clearing everything in front of you, as well as some direct damage to anything you may have been laser-ing at the time. Woo!

W-Type

"W" stands for "Winder". it winds around the ship from two points on either side, and fires a good radius in front of you.

It's hard to tell, but the secondary function increases the radius of how either side spins, for a breif moment. Nothing too exciting.

The overdrive is in a sort of 'flower' shape inward toward the player ship, sweeping up and down on either side.

P-Type

"P" as in "Plus". Why?

The secondary function swaps the formation by 90 degrees. You essentially control a screen-wide crosshatch of bullets.

The overdrive has the whole thing pull a 180, while each individual option 180's as well in either direction, sweeping the screen clean of enemies.

S-Type

"S" as in "Spinner".

With each button press, the options rotate around you by 45 degrees. This gives you full control of all 8 directions at any time you like.

The overdrive is just as you see above; a much slower spinning sweep, but entirely capable of clearing the whole screen.

C-Type

"Chariot". Above you see the 'wide' formation, essentially sweeping the entire screen with bullets.

And here you see the 'focused' formation, directing all bullets directly in front of you.

The overdrive essentially sweep in front of you in a cone-shape. 'Focused' formation isn't as broad a sweep, but is all the more deadly to what it hits.

G-Type

Finally, my favorite, "Grinder". This one's a little more complex that the others, as it functions in a variety of ways.

It is the melee-type of the options, and is a very potent buzz-saw of VERY short-range bullets, hitting anything that touches the options themselves. It fires on its own, and stays close to the player-ship.

Upon firing, however, the circle radius expands, allowing you to grind away enemies a little farther away, while having time to react to their movements. Well that's all fine and dandy, but what's its secondary function then?

Upon use of a support item, the grinder stays stationary where you used support. Upon pressing again, it retracts back to the player-ship.

And of course, shooting still increases its radius.

Finally, the overdrive fires inward toward the player as it increases and decreases in radius. Essentially anything inside them is completely destroyed.

Wanna play these, do you? Below is a download link for a rehash of "401", including 6 different trys, one per option type. Have fun, and be sure to play it all the way to the very end. Extract to your /try folder, and play in fraxy. They should be the 6 at the very top of your list.

Woah, these all look great.

Reminds me how much I'm falling behind with Fraxy, too.

Whenever I decide to play it again, I'll definitely try these out.
