The main menu's level is the "demo" level that shows in the main menu, with Mario playing it.

This level can be edited in Lunar Magic - it's the level #C7.

It is easy to figure out that Mario follows predefined moves.
If you move the first ? block upwards, the shell thrown by Mario will not reach it, Mario will not get Yoshi and he will die farther along, when meeting the Koopas.

When he dies, the game shows the "Game over" screen, and then, you can play the demo level, just like a normal level, even though you have 0 lives.

However, this level has no end, which means it cannot be completed.
If you die, the live counter will show a "P5", then "P4" and so on. It's just that the counter is an unsigned number and wraps to the highest value when the live counter is negative.

Also, if you die, you'll return to the beginning of the level.

I've tried adding an end to the level. Doesn't help. If you reach whatever end, you'll just return to the beginning of the level.

What it means is that, if Mario dies in the menu, you're stuck in the menu level.

Later, I'll put a video to show the whole thing.

So...? It's already well known that Mario shouldn't die or finish the demo level.

Also, wasn't this pretty much common knowledge even back when I was even slightly interested in SMW hacking?

I think it was pretty much common knowledge even back when I joined the board...

That is my first experiments with Lunar Magic, as well as doing crazy shit in the first level.

But then, if it's possible to edit the predefined path followed by Mario, then it could be possible to edit the level. But it'd require ASM hacking surely.

Feel free to trash this thread.

Nope. It's quite easy to edit the demo movements, really.

Assuming you're talking about the demo actions (which I'm pretty sure you are), there is a feature in LM that allows one to change these. However, I can't remember for the life of me how exactly to use it... seeing as I haven't seriously hacked the game in years.

I see. As I'm completely new to SMW hacking, I guess I should stop making assumptions like that before I have better knowledge.

I don't recall the details, but there was a way to edit the demo movements by just making and recording a zsnes movie yourself, and make the game use what you recorded. Then it becomes trivial to make your own original level and record yourself playing it, and set that as demo.

I remember it was easy to look up how by googling.

It's in the Overworld editor's File menu.
I suggest you educate yourself about SMW Hacking here.

This was well known before I got into SMW hacking.

Welcome to the boards though. Plenty to learn and plenty to read.

Well, thank you everyone.

I'm gonna read all that when I find some time for it.
