This is a sneak peek of one of my latest projects, which will also probably be my last. It's called Super Mario RPG TC or Total Conversion.

So what this hack is all about?

It's going to have up to Level 70 characters. 30000+ exp. Renovated maps, new spell assignments, new spells, and enemies, and oh.. it's going to have a completely different battle and event scripts.

See some of the changes..







Future plans..

Since I am slowly grasping the concept of ASM, I plan to extend the coin limit to 9999 instead of 999. Fix the menu numeral display, and extend the number of items to 255+.

This hack won't probably finish until next year, considering the efforts and time that had to be exerted on this project. Anyway, this is merely just an introduction. I just hope I can have more time to complete it. But, I am planning to team up with Waddler, so hopefully, we can finish it.

Amazing stuff! You said Wario is gonna be a member of your party,
what kinda role is he gonna play? anti-hero or something? I personally
Don't see him as an evil character. Also I can't wait to play super mario rpg expansion!
Lastly if you ever need a beta tester I'm all for it as all I do is pretty much play
video games(apart from a job on the weekends).

Wario is going to be a hero this time. But, knowing him, he's not joining Mario without good reason.

Wario obviously takes Bowser's place, and even some of his spells.

As for Super Mario RPG Expansion, hopefully, it's going to be released next week.

Argh.. the event scripts are frustrating, I was editing the Inn event where Mario sleeps at Mushroom Kingdom Inn. Everything works fine until he woke up wherein his head fell from the bed and into the floor.



Apparently, the Toadstool people betrayed him and cut off his head while sleeping. I did not intend this to happen. It was a bug that I'm still working on.

I was frustrated, but I got a good laugh when it happened.

It fell off when he woke up. His body remained on the bed. It's a bug.

The screenshots look pretty cool.
#1: It's an innovative idea to let people press a on various objects
reminds me of the pokemon series where you could check bookcases.

#2: Did you edit the font because it looks really polished.

#3: Looks good although it seems like the boxes are on the floor,
but maybe that's what you were going for.

overall it looks like you made the rooms slightly larger which
is very cool.

#1: Unfortunately, due to unlimited dialogues and space. I can't insert the same events on every level. I am also conserving space.

#2: Yes I did.

#3: Actually, the boxes are really on the floor. Some treasure chest float, while some don't. In TC, you'll get to encounter strange boxes most of the time, including a Super Mario Bros. block that bounces when you hit from below.

And oh, there are also some Easter Eggs. Don't be surprise if a Beanstalk comes out of one of the boxes.

I'm sorry to say that my intensive event script hacking led me to the corruption of some of the important scripts used by the game including the lava burn ani wherein Mario flies out with a smoking butt. My ASM hack has also rendered my ROM uneditable via Lazy Shell. Meaning, I will be editing the ROM via hex editor from here on.

Anyways, the big pic will warn others not to mess with things beyond Lazy Shell.

Yep, that unfortunately happens when you use a hex editor alongside Lazy Shell V1.0. I've experienced the same thing when I was working on my hack and had gone in to change a few events. Thankfully, 99.9% of the changes on the hack were through other means (ex. hex editor). Though, yeah... I wish I could figure out why it happened for me.

LS reads the pointers and the data, and needs it to be in sync with the program. Changes it doesn't know took place causes this unhandled exception. I also figured out what causes the event script parsing errors. It's those unusual codes not recognized by LS.

There are some commands, the authors aren't still aware of. One unreadable script is the lava burn my butt event. It contains a NON EMBEDDED script which LS does not support, maybe because it contains a longer string that goes beyond LS' limitation. Well, that event was a total waste of space since it got corrupted when I deleted some unused codes.

Just a lil update to let you guys know that the TC is still ongoing.

I would also like to thank Omega for letting me borrow the LS v.2.1. It's great help for my hack.

I've never actually used the mapmaking function of Lazy Shell (I just barely started using Lazy Shell myself) so I probably wouldn't be any help with mapmaking. I would gladly be a beta tester though.

Map making is easy once you get to understand the concept. I learned map making without any document on hand, but it can really be time consuming. The technique to make editing less burdensome is to use the gridlines, that way, you'll know which tile to edit.

Anyway, PM me your email ad, and I'll send you an unofficial IPS of the hack.

There are still some events that have been messed up including the Super Star event. I dunno what went wrong, but the problem could lie on a script that was accidentally moved by my script editor.
