...why don't we have a thread for this yet?

Anyways, yeah, it came out yesterday (November 15th) in the US. Great fun. I'm at world 8 now, I could be done, but I've shown a little restraint.

The Koopalings being back is awesome. A bit easy, but Mario bosses never really were known for being particularly difficult.

As far as difficulty goes, it's easier than SMB3 but harder than SMW. It's a pretty good difficulty. That is, until I found the a room in world 7 where you could easily bounce of bullet bills to get infinite lives. Plus it doesn't help that bullet bills are even slower in this game.

Now I need to get someone over to play with me.

The release of this game makes me rage about not owning a Wii yet. I want to play it so damn bad! I guess I should just chill out and bounce on it when I finally get my hands on one, hopefully not after the game has achieved "No big deal" status...

Boing, lives are generally irrelevant in any Mario game; it's a rare Mario game where you actually have a chance of getting a game over (such as, SMB2j).

Generally, the only Mario titles I get close to game over on these days are the 3-D installments. Incidentally, they're the only Mario titles in the last 10 years that do not save your lives... Would be nice if I could convert my surplus of 200+ lives from SMA4 to my Galaxy file. @_o

Anyway, I'm playing NSMBWii at the moment. My sister and I got halfway through world 4 yesterday on a separate file, and I'm just starting world 3 on my solo file. It's great fun so far, and unlike a lot of people, I'm trying to take my time so that it's not over in just a couple of days. :b (did that with a lot of games I've gotten over-hyped with and regretted it)

Trelior: the Wii...it calls you. It is your destiny!

I heard of a review that describes this game as "one of the most important games of recent memory", "essential", "if you buy one game for your Wii in your life, make sure it's this one", among other accolades. That is fucking ludicrous. It's the same as every other 2D Mario, but with different worlds (which is a given for it being a different game), a couple new powerups, and multiplayer. OH MULTIPLAYER, SO INNOVATIVE.... gimme a break.

This is exactly what happened with Twilight Princess. A good, solid game (as I'm sure one is, make no mistake about that), but got so much reviewer pandering it was insane. It used the exact same formula as the games before it, with some tweaks here and there and whatnot. In fact, NSMBWii has LESS new in it than Twilight Princess did for the Legend of Zelda games.

I have no doubt in my mind that the game is solid and fun, but the amount of praise it receives from reviewers is appalling. It's not revolutionizing the franchise or gaming or anything like that. It's just taking an old game and reselling it with a few new doodads, acting like it's brand new and makes huge changes to the series.

I agree a bit. It is fun, but not that big of a deal.

Yeah it's not so "innovative", but it is damn fun, and I would say it's an essential game for any wii owner.

Also, was just playing and came on to say this.
World 8-7 is possibly the best Mario level ever conceived. After I unlocked it I played it 3 times in a row. It was so awesome.

From the gameplay videos I have seen, the game doesn't look impressive at all. I don't particulary care for the new slanting platforms that they have (if I remember correctly they were in the DS version as well, which I did play, and was not impressed as well), and you can't see the inside of a wall until you are actually in it (it's stupid, just show it), and there isn't anything about it that makes me want to pick it up. Another game I can pass up.

I really wish these companies would go back to their roots.

I got to that level so I could test your statement, and you were right, it is the best level ever.

I was playing SMB3 on my Wii after years of not playing it... I got a few game overs.

Although, lives are still a relic from the arcade days (INSERT MORE COINS TO CONTINUE!) and it's silly that games still have them; especially since saves were made (and some console games have built in save-state like functionality as well; as many saves as you want, rewind the level, etc).

I agree. It is annoying to have to go through the menu, select your level, etc many times when you can't be the level. Even if they want too keep lives they should at least increase the starting amount to save some time. I've actually almost quit games before because the continue feature takes too long. But as we all know if lives are removed people are going to complain because it isn't like the NES Mario games anymore.

SMB3 is generally one of the harder games in the series.

Also, one of the levels has MISSILE BANZAI BILLS. I oshi'd.

7-6 is also a kickass hidden level.

In other news, I just unlocked 9-7, and getting all of the star coins will be... difficult, to say the least.

I was watching my friends play it the other day. It does look pretty sweet, but I also agree with what Bukkarooo said. Despite it not being all that original when accounting for the games on which it's based, it still looks like it can be a barrel of fun.

i've played it at my friend's house, and i beat it in, well, 14 hours. I sure do love the secrets. This is one of the really cool games to play, way better than being on an emulator. Playing this with an emulator would... suck.

Yeah, not too original there, yet still fun. This definitely has a bit more exploration than in SMB3, but a bit more challenging than SMB3. I'll be playing some more New Super Mario Wii this afternoon, because my friend is having a birthday at a neat hotel, and we're bringing games.

I should be able to do multiplayer today so I can finally be able to discuss this part of the game. Hopefully this will make up for me not playing it much.

I've nearly gotten all the star coins. Only a few more left to go. Granted, a few will be huge pains in the ass.

I need to find someone to play this with. I'm sure it will be a lot more interesting with more people!
