My shift ends at 5 PM, so I look at my phone, it says 5:05 PM. I have a ride picking me up at 5. So I'm rushing to the time clock, and my co-worker asks me, "what shift did you do today, 7 to 4?" I go, "no, 9 to 5." He asks, "you clocking out?" I said, yeah. He says, "you know it's only 4 though right?" I'm like, "what?" He said "Yeah, it's 4." I look at the time clock, and then I look at my phone. My phone is still an hour ahead! Now, I figured because I no longer have service on a network (I use the phone as a clock), that the timer didn't automatically adjust itself. My co-workers were laughing at me, because I was all set to leave with the bag in my hand, and I still had another hour to go! I felt stupid. I got owned by my phone!

Anyone else have an interesting Daylight Savings Time story?

Years back when my shift was over my relief came an hour late cause he claimed he forgot to set clock, which was bullshit & we both knew it. I hate daylight Savings Time with a passion, it should be done away with.

I read up on DST when it began earlier, apparently it's all some garbage about "improving the average quality of life by allowing more time for outdoor activities reliant on the sun."

Hah, we are FORUMERS.

No need to save daylight, some of us don't even know what it looks like :3

EDIT: Wow, I failed the topic and only on the third post.
Well, daylight savings doesn't appear to affect me: yet. It's usually my parents who remind me of it (yes, still a young'un), and so when I leave home... Ouch.

I remembered about DST and set my clock back. However, my mother did not. Sound I got to be greeted in the morning by her yelling at me about how I was going to be late, even though I still didn't have to be up for 30 minutes.

I don't have to deal with Daylight Savings Time either. :O

I'm really glad too, because it just seems like it would cause more unnecessary confusion than anything.

I'm irritated why *anyone* has to fucking deal with DST. I don't have to deal with it, and I'm thankful; but it's amazing that the real reason for its existence is debated. Nobody really knows why it's there.

DST was enstated because of farms needing more daylight to get their work done while the sun was still out, but since a lot of farming is done with more machinery, I think they should abolish it.

I have one. I am from Arizona (we have no DST). I could not figure out why our digital TV converter box kept displaying the wrong times during this past summer...until I played with the menu & saw that it had DST enabled. Meh.

At least my radio clock asked me about DST when I set the time zone.

What do they do when a nurse is supposed to push a drug at e.g. 1:30 AM & there are 2 1:30 AMs? Do they write "the first 1:30 AM" on the order?

(Obviously computers can just use GMT internally & display whatever they want.)

If this is true, then DST was really instated because people didn't have enough fucking common sense to just adjust scheduling because they didn't realize that instating DST doesn't magically give them more daylight.

Common sense? Hardly.

Think about it as if one farmer's schedule was n amount of rows in table s, would you rather go through each row updating it? Or just change t, and not have to worry about the adverse affects of altering your timetable?

Don't forget that it's easier to manage things with business partners if everyone is using a consistent timescale. Having the farmers have an awkward schedule, when everyone could be using a reasonable yet different schedule, is problematic.
