First, the avatear input field in profile options. It doesn't work right. It does memorize the image you select, but the text field stays blank, where it should show the image filename and path.

Next, I uploaded a PNG with transparency. Works fine on Jul. But here, the image is surrounded by a black box.

And I think it's all...
Thanks in advance for fixing those bugs

Since it's a file upload field, when you load the Edit Profile page, it will be blank. This is by design and not a site bug. When you submit your changes, the board code checks if a file was chosen. If so, it uploads said file to the site's user pictures bin. If not, nothing happens to whatever userpic you had before.

As for the PNG you uploaded, was it 100x100? If it's too large, it'll be scaled down, which eats the transparency. This is not as much a bug as simply a different resizing approach from what Jul does. It can be circumvented by resizing it yourself, then uploading the edited version.

Incidentally, staff can have >100px userpics, in case you wondered.

Yup, but when you select your file... the field remains blank. It should show the filename you chose when you are still editing your profile and didn't save your changes yet. Like the upload field on the upload pages of, say, Mediafire or Imageshack.
If you think it shouldn't, then it isn't serving any purpose and should be removed because it looks weird.

And about the avatar... I see. The limits on Jul are 200x200, my avatar is 150x150... I made it so it fit on Jul, but I wasn't aware of the actual limit here. So I should make a smaller version I guess...
Edit: tried to upload a resized version, doesn't work. It still keeps the old crappily resized version.

I have nothing more to say on the upload field. As for your avatar still being the "old crappily resized version", hit refresh. I can see it just fine.

Ah yeah, it's fixed now. Weird

And for the upload field, yes it is buggy. I repeat, when you just selected your file, it should show the filename, instead of staying blank.

"It works on my machine"

No seriously, it does. I just checked. Anybody else have this problem? Is there a correlation? I'm sure there is, but I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet.

Edit: it's not just weird. Your avatar is stored as http://acmlm.no-ip.org/board/userpic/1790, where 1790 is your ID. If you upload a new one, it just replaces the same file, but your browser won't necessarily use the new version until you refresh. Nothing weird about it.

Ah, you see. The upload field is broken.

About the avatar, that's still wierd: I refreshed after uploading the new avatar, ofcourse. But the old avatar was still here. I tried reuploading it again and again, and refreshed again. The old one was still here.

I don't know which browser you use, but in IE, you could do a forced refresh (Ctrl-F5), and in Opera I think you can do right-click on the image and Reload from the menu.

Using Firefox.

But now it works. Weird.

Okay, then let's get to the correlation thing.

I'm using Opera 10 on XP. The upload field reflects the file just fine. In IE8 too.

Anybody else?

Works fine under IE8. But under Firefox, stays blank.

I just got an idea on what could cause the problem: Firefox doesn't apply the black color to the box, but applies the white color to the text in it. White text on white background -> unreadable

By the way, under Firefox, clicking the box does pop-up the file selection dialog; under IE8, it doesn't.

The former is a perfectly valid reason why it doesn't reflect your chosen file, and is not a board bug, but rather Firefox's mistake.

The latter is just something Firefox does differently from the other two and is not a valid argument for whatever.

Oh well, topic over.

I still can't understand why Firefox doesn't apply black color to the textbox. All the other textboxes in the board are fine.

Because it's not a text field. It's a file upload field.
