What are you gonna do about it? Huh?
I'm gonna buy it. If you haven't heard already, Super Paper Mario is unlike the previous Paper Mario games. It's more of an action game, but you still have hit points and items. A sidescrolling Zelda is something to imagine, if you want a starting point. Something I've heard somewhere is that (ignoring the hit points etc.) it will be another crack at a large-scale Mario sidescroller, at heart. There are other complications as well. If you've seen any videos recently, you know about the big feature ("gimmick," if you're cynical). You can operate some kind of control, maybe push a button I guess, and everything turns sideways. Now you can wander around and dodge the enemies, who are mostly flat. When things are in normal view, you bump into everything that is visible from that angle - all blocks are impediments, all enemies are dangerous. You can change the view - you can now go behind enemies, and the blocks might turn out to be set forward and back from one another, so you can now pass between them. It appears from the videos (which you should watch, if this sounds confusing) that you have a meter that decreases while in this versatile mode. I imagine that if it runs out, something bad happens. You can see various videos on websites that normally hold such things, for example Gametrailers and IGN. p.s. forgot to mention, this is a Wii thing ____________________ |

I would like Paper Mario if it wasn't for the fact it is paper mario. It is just me and my own view, but I never liked the idea of the players looking flat. Plus the artist's style. Mario loses all facial ex What they really need is a 3d version (like Mario 64 or Sunshine) of Super Mario Bros 3. But unlike most Paper Mario games I will get this one. It has a more normal mario fling to it gameplay-wise other than the new 2d to 3d swapping which looks nice. |

Posted by Sgraff87 1. This is the sort of thinking that totally ruins the idea of more artistic and niche-based games. 2. Congratulations. You have won the Nobel prize in Video Game Fanboy Ideas Lacking Merit and Originality |

Posted by ZiffPosted by Sgraff87 Alright. As an artist myself I have to say that all Super Mario games MUST use the same art styles and must lack all new ideas and originality. That is how you think of my opinion anyhow. You can't seriously think I think like that. |

Guys, can you please calm down and do what Zem asks us to do. I for instance will probably jump up and/or down when this comes out. Such an amazing concept and graphics that have real personality and style. This looks likes its going to utterly out do Mario Sunshine. Sunshine was such a disappointment.
Super Paper Mario is actually something fresh and interesting, I really hope they don't skimp on the levels though. NSMB was too short and easy. I'm hoping the challenge level gets high and stays there for a good chunk of the game. |

Posted by Clockworkz Far as I know, it "isn't" coming out of the Gamecube, so no? From what I can tell (and I did some checking just now) it appears to only be coming out for the Wii, no GCN version will be available to my knowledge. |

I think it was initially under development for the GCN, but later moved to the Wii. But as of now, I can't find anywhere that lists it for the GCN anymore.. so I doubt it's going to be anything short of a Wii Exclusive. |

Correct, it will only be coming out for the Wii. I guess that sucks for people who can't find/don't want a Wii, but that's not me, so whatever!
Anyway. The whole 2D/3D flip thing could make for some really clever and elaborate puzzles, if they go for it. I hope they do. For those worrying about the length, gametrailers there's an interview with an excitable representative ("GDC 07 Story and Controls Interview") who claims it's very long. I think he says 50 hours or something. Now, after the claim that Twilight Princess would be 70-some hours, I'd scale that back a bit. But even if it's half that, 25 hours is quite a lot for an action game. ____________________ |

Twilight Princess technically was upwards to 70 hours, especially if you didn't zoom through the game and instead took some time to enjoy the sights a bit. (At least, I clocked in around that amount of time.) Though I can see how some diehard Zelda fans would easily beat it in under that..
In any case, this game is looking incredible. I'm definitely going to pick it up sometime next month if I get the chance.. Thanks for the reminder about it too Zem, nearly forgot all about this game until I saw the thread for it this morning. |

The "new" style of this really turned me off. I wanted another RPG-style game. |

Ehh, The RPG games were fun, but theres no harm done is adopting the art style into another genre with some new twists. All and all, it looks genuinely interesting, and I like how Nintendo often tries to shake things up a bit.. It helps keep things from getting too stale. |

Posted by Krisan Thyme Yeah, It took me 80 hours but that's because I left it on pause a lot... I did take my time through the game, rarley ever using the guide and eventually beat it at the end of Christmas break. I'm looking forward to this game very much-ly. I'm not getting it though because I need to get up to date with all the GC/DS games I missed... (I regret having not played thousand year door yet. ) ____________________ |

I'm going to buy it. From what I've seen it looks good and I liked the other Paper Mario games (although I'm aware this one is much different). |

I loved the old Paper Marios so much. I was at first disappointed to hear it wasn't an RPG, but this looked neat. Bowser will be fun. |

Posted by Darckthunder That's pretty much how I felt when I first heard about Super Paper Mario. Then again, sidescrollers have been one of my favorite genres in video games. I'm definitely going to buy this game when I finally get a Wii. |

Apparently, that Meter controls how much time you have left in 3D before you are forced to go back to 2D, unless you go back earlier by yourself.
I'd get this, but... I have no Wii |
