Sorry, you need to load your project before reloading the sprites file.

Edit: Just saw your edit lol. I'll be disabling menu items and what not before the release. I know right now it's easy to get exceptions if you don't know what to do first. Error handling is always the last thing I try to code in

Minor GUI/ User Friendliness thing

For the sprite selection tab, could you make it so you can navigate through it with the Scroll Wheel on a mouse?

Also, for "Horizontal" levels, could you make it so the Scroll Wheel navigates left and right as opposed to up and down?

I know what you mean about the horizontal scrolling levels, although I somehow managed to get the level to horizontally scroll in horizontal levels by stretching the Reuben window enough such that there's no vertical scroll bar. To be honest, I don't know if that's a GUI issue or mouse compatibility issue, although I'm sure something may be worked out by DahrkDaiz.

As far as the 11-11-09 release of this editor, I like it even more than the previous 2 releases! I do find it slightly awkward that the new selection mode is default, but that's only because I'm sort of used to erasing with the right mouse tool. I really like the selection mode, since I already made a couple quick sample levels where a sequence of different tiles was repeated many times over, and then I added detail to different parts afterwords.

Just a tiny typo, the cannonball generators that shoot right say that they shoot left, but that's just a small issue. The good news is that the sprite icons point in the correct directions though.

"Silver Coin" is misspelled. I agree with Binary, the mad Mario can go.

Photobucket

Simple, quick level. But when I added the pointer, it was at the top, and when I brought it down, it wouldn't let me go! Is that Quicksand real? If not, then it should be shown so in the ToolTip. And I don't know how the Invisible Note Blocks got there, and aren't they red?

Will Ship level remain with graphically messed-up Bricks and that?

Zbyte: The red invisible note blocks send Mario into bonus areas like 1-3-bonus and 1-5-bonus. There ARE in fact, white invisible notes.

Level editor does not show updated/edited graphics in the level editor unless you reopen Reuben.

So I am going to just write notes in notepad as I use Reuben and paste them.

GUI Suggestions

Graphics editor:

- Additional Drawing tools
- Different grid sizes (currently by 1x1 pixel, perhaps 2x2, 4x4, and 8x8 (Perhaps the same for the level editor as well.)
- Graphics manager doesn't load graphics pages currently being used by the level, just palette only.
- Have "half Table" be loaded by default
- The ability to see what your tiles look like as you edit, perhaps by real-time or an "update" button
- The ability to Copy and Paste tiles
- Tile changing properties: Rotate, Flip, Offset by Pixel

Bugs

When placing pointers, after you click "add", you can't click
to place it. It always follows curser no matter what you do,
except for deleting it.

Sure, I'll dick around with this.

I should probably get off my dead ass and learn ASM or something.

Is there an Undo Tool? Just Ctrl+Z or something?

I also forgot to mention that the fill tool ignores isolated sections at the end of the level area and spillsout into the rest of the area. If you block a corner off, fill in the corner, it will also fill in the rest of the tiles on the outside of the corner too.

Edit: I don't think an undo buffer has been coded yet, CopyRIGHThunter.

Might I suggest that it actually let you decide where to save the project file? :V

Or is that already in the works for the first version that edits the rom?

(also, the layout editor seems to be quite buggy for me. It seems to have wanted to spew a whole boatload of unhandled exceptions involving array bounds for me. Seemed to happen when I left-clicked, then right-clicked while holding down the left mouse button.)

How many times in a row will you be able to undo? Hopefully you manage to make so that you can undo the whole session if you want to.

I can do entire session, but that means a much bigger memory foot print. If you want to really undo it though, you can just close the level and reopen it :-\

Having undo for only one move is fine for me. That's what I had to work with way back when I used GameMaker (start cringing now rom-hacking people ). Being able to undo three moves would be the best - just like paint.

Also, I dunno about anyone else, but using shift makes the rectangle fill tool a little buggy. (It's the only tool I really use place stuff - it's an awesome tool!!!) It seems like when I click, it uses an old position to start placing the rectangle instead of the current one.

You could add an option to set how many "moves" you can undo, that way those who have the memory to undo 514296 moves can do so, those that don't need not worry about it.

I just encountered an exception by copying data from one level (Horizontal) and tried pasting to a vertical level.

I do not think memory footprint is a concern nowadays, especially if you are keeping tracks of the actions done rather than making it store old copies of the levels.
