Well, when I eat out, I always order a cola. Now, I used to just order a cola and see what happened. Now, some places would just pour a glass and give me that, while others would leave the little bottle so I could refill the glass myself. In the former case, I would not know what brand I was about to taste.

If it were Pepsi (or really any other brand), I'd take a sip and get this nagging feeling that something's wrong with my drink. I'd then investigate and find the place served Pepsi (or whatever).

Nowadays, I confirm they have Coke before I order. If they don't, I just get a cold chocolate milk or something.

It's not even just the brands. My dad pulled this on me twice while I visited. He had forgotten my Coke Lite preference, and brought regular Coke back from his vacation in France. I did not see the bottle. I took a sip and remarked on IRC that there was something funky about my Coke. Now, I knew for a fact that it was Coke. My dad's not quite that stupid. It was later confirmed that it was Coke Lite from France. The water there is different or something. Kiyoshi told me it was likely -- the coke he had during his vacation in the USA tasted like chlorine, he said.

Next visit, my dad had forgotten the "Lite" part and bought the caffeine-free crap. I could tell.

Regular Coke is okay, though. Just a little more sugary than Lite (obviously).
