I think Nintendo DOES think people are stupid, and/or can't handle the difficulty of things.

that wasn't exactly my point. I was saying that Nintendo is stupid. I mean, one of their huge announcements last E3 has referred to with "New New" at the beginning. Shows you how creative they are and how far out of the box they're willing to go.... meaning; not very far

You ever note how much dumbed down some of the games we get are?

Like the Japanese versions are harder, and we only get the easy types.

Ironically, some of the games we get here in the US are made to be harder. Granted not drastically. (See: Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga)

I think Nintendo is finally realizing that the US can actually HANDLE difficulty.

Finally.

Actually, they also upped the difficulty of challenge mode in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, and that was released 1999, so they have been making some games marginally harder for some amount of time already.

They increased the amount of score you need in levels to get the High Score Medal and exceed the challenge score meter, so you needed to be more perfect in your collection of points and combos or use cheap stuff like standing next to a Koopa-in-shell and kicking it away just when it's about to come out for say, 8000 points.

I want to learn Japanese so I don't have to deal with this American and European version changes. It is annoying how the stupidest things are changed.

One thing I don't get is for example the difference between the European and American Mario Kart Wiis. For example what the hell is wrong with the 3rd course of the Flower Cup being called DK's Snowboard Cross in America or, DK Summit in Europe? Why is it Galaxy Colosseum in one, and Arena in the other, or Chain Chomp Roulette vs Chain Chomp Wheel?

Because it's far easier to translate, perhaps?

But where the hell is Galaxy Colosseum? Seriously, I've never seen a track or battle course with that name, I believe...

From what I've seen from videos of the Japanese version, DK Summit is the original name of that track, meaning that the American version translated it correctly, and not with a slight creative liberty like the European version. It might be their creative differences or different styles of translation, because most menu options are simply worded differently in either version.

This sort of thing doesn't usually happen because Nintendo of Europe basically just uses the same American localization in their Europe version, (even leaving things like favorite without changing it to favourite, this has happened to quite a few) but since they wanted to release Mario Kart Wii earlier they decided to localize it themselves leaving Nintendo of America with a different translation, dialog, text, etc.

Galaxy Colosseum was a special course in the Tournaments/Competitions, such as the one where you had to get those enemies from Galaxy out of the arena using Mushrooms. You can't access it via anything other than a Tournament... or hacking, I suppose.

It was the first tournament; you had to battle the top guys from Super Mario Galaxy.

I don't recall if it was used again in any later tournaments.

I think they repeated the tournament twice.
