"Maze of Doom" is 1-3? I'd be kinda' scared to see what 6-3 would be titled, then.

It looks good, of course. I have to ponder, however...how difficult would graphics hacking for SMW2 be? Every hack of it I've seen so far is vanilla, and while vanilla is good...well, you know.

Keep it up!

Probably not difficult as opposed to time consuming. I mean thinking about it save for Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past and Mario World no one really touches graphics for other SNES games

You can edit the graphics with YY-CHR, and most hacks have edited map icons. You can also edit the music for YI as well, but that requires hex-editing.

Oh, I was merely remarking on the fact that some SNES games use a strange compression method for their graphics. I know Super Mario World does this, which prevents straight editing of the tiles.

I just figured that since the original game does it, then SMW2 does as well...but maybe it doesn't. :o

The lines of coins you took pictures of make me think you're spreading coins liberally throughout the rest of the levels as well.

This isn't really a good thing, because too many coins means too many extra lives.

FuSoYa made Ycompress which can decompress and recompress the graphics from YI.

I'm only seeing coins in two screenshots; even if there are many coins, what's wrong with getting 1-Ups? The player would need them.

Having too many one-ups means the game is too easy. In the original YI, I quickly max out my life counter because of all the coins.

Thought so. The OP seemed to be suggesting that we could skip this step, though; hence my confusion.

Now we know!

As for the 1-up deal... No matter what the player's level design is, it's ridiculously easy to gain extra lives from the bonus games, so I don't see any real problem as long as the hack is made to be difficult.

Apparently you never payed attention to the original SMW2 because it's insanely easy to get 70+ lives from World 1 alone if you don't suck.

Don't tell me what I don't pay attention to.

And, no, playing each level only once and not getting extra lives from external sources and not getting coins by using eggs, you can't get anywhere near 70 extra lives in world 1 alone.

But you can still collect way too many coins in the original game, which made it far too easy. The only "balancing" factor was the (lack of) continue rings.
