We caught a good one this past weekend - Trick or Treat, in which an outcast metalhead summons a dead rock star by playing his record backwards. I'm a big fan of '80s cheese, and there's tons to be had in this movie. The popular kids wear skinny ties and spray their hair into ridiculous bouffants. The metalhead kid has headbands to match his T-shirts. And the special effects aren't exactly state of the art. Hooray for lightning that looks like it was drawn with a neon Etch a Sketch. Trick or Treat doesn't take itself seriously, the dialogue is decently done, and it moves at a reasonable pace, so it was a worthy use of an hour and a half on a boring Saturday night.

Shaun of the Dead.

Not only is it one of the funniest movies of all time, it's about a zombie outbreak, and there is a gratuitous amount of gore. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.

I'll give you that. Excellent movie. I can't wait to see the next one from these guys. It's about cops. I'll have to find the link at IMDB.

Some of the top ones that I found were made for a comical sense. I know that I have some more, but they are not up there like these.

Dead Alive/Brain Dead
Evil Dead II
Evil Dead III: The Army of Darkness

These of course were made for a sense of humor with horror mixed.
I never liked "Scary Movie" or the many knock-off imitation movies making fun of the horror genre.

Shaun of the Dead was a great comedy horror. The fact that it takes place in Britain makes it that much better. For one, the lack of fire arms.

There's some zombie movie on Sci Fi right now that's hilarious(ly bad). It's not a horror, per se, but meh.

House is pretty fun, a lot of Masters of Horror stuff is hilarious.

I really enjoy most old Ed Woods and some of the other 50s/60s drive-in retro horror. Always grand.

Of course, the crown goes to Troma. Anything they touch is gold.

I love Shaun of the Dead.

Saw a review last night for Hot Fuzz and very much looking forward to that too.

Other than that, I find most horror movies to be quite silly. Evil Dead II and Evil Dead III: The Army of Darkness were very, very silly.

Shaun of the Dead is great, as is Evil Dead 2. (I haven't seen the rest of the Evil Dead series.) I'm hoping to see more mentions of horror movies that weren't intended to be funny. As a fan of the Silent Hill games, I had to go see the movie. I didn't set out to laugh the entire way through, but thanks to the dialogue, the video game-esque puzzles, and the ever so serious cult that came off like a Monty Python ripoff, I just couldn't help myself.

What do you think of Fat Guy Goes Nutzoid? The only person I know who saw it hated it, and my sense of humor is similar to his, but I've heard varying opinions, so I suppose it's worth a shot.

Want to know something really scary? They're remaking Army of Darkness. Bruce Campbell doesn't play Ash.

Who does? Ashton Kutcher.

WTF!?

That is very hard to believe. I heard he was.
But then again, would Bruce be able to act as a college aged student? (not like he resembled one before. Maybe in Within the Woods he did.)

Remaking Army of Darkness with Ashton Kutcher?!

He's nowhere near the badass level, the moron cannot even find his damned car. This will be a trainwreck...

"Yeah I'll find the Necronomicon but... dude where's my car?"
"Where's your car dude?"

It'll repeat for a painful 3 hours or more and nothing will be accomplished.

I wish those hollywood assholes would just leave the classics alone. They'd be better off making money by peddling drugs. If they get shot or convicted of conspiracy, at least they wouldn't kill a classic... which by the way, should be punishable by death.

We should start blacklisting them again.

Okay before I get into my post here. Here's the REAL scoop on the Evil Dead remake. Ashton Kutcher is NOT going to play Ash. Ash is not going to be in it. As far as those "Hollywood assholes" ruining Evil Dead. Guess who's remaking it? Ghost House... ya' know... the company that Sam Raimi owns. Damn that guy that made the original ruining a classic. I mean seirously at least he's not pulling a George Lucas here.

Aaaanyhoo, I agree Troma takes the cake. I mean have any of you people seen Beware, Children at Play? The 20 minute cannibal child slaughter is rediculous.

20-minute CANNIBAL child slaughter... wtf!? That has to be my moment of zen today.

Evil dead without Ash is like an electric lamp without a lightbulb... it simply won't work.

Yeah you heared me, and I don't mean that cannibals kill the kids. I mean that the cannibals ARE the kids. It is a sick sick movie, but that's what makes it hilarious. Over the top gore is always funny to me, I don't know why. Maybe there's something wrong with me...

As far as Ash not being in the Evil Dead Remake, that was all Bruce Campbell's call. With that whole little group, it's sort of understood that Bruce owns Ash, and he refuses to let anyone else play him. Obviously though Bruce playing him in the remake wouldn't work, because it's supposed to be about college kids. I dunno, I see it all as a blessing and a curse.

Curse- Evil Dead Remake
Blessing- Evil Dead 4 gets made from the Evil Dead Remake money.

Oh man... Route 666

Not only is the name dumb, but the plot is terrible. It "just so happens" that the main character's dad is on of the zombies that tries to kill him. I mean, it's funny because it's so bad. It's not trying to be funny (or at least, I don't think it's trying to be...)

Thhe Troma films are great. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Citizen Toxie. But a few other great horror comedies I could mention are Cabin Fever, Howling 3, any of the Silent Night Deadly Night movies, also The Lost Skeliton of Cadavara was great!

Cabin Fever? Awful... awful movie... but was Howling 3 the Marsupial one? Or was that 4? I can't remember. I actually own it though, it's pretty awful.
