This is a far shot, but I figure why not suggest it since I've thought of this idea, even though it might not be a good idea. Granted some of the problems that one might encounter would be not enough skilled people to approve the layouts, be able to spot malicious code/faulty HTML, etc.
Anyway, my idea is that we bring back the post layouts, granted the problems we have had in the past with breaking tables, XSS/Javascript related attacks. My idea for implementing this would be to first display the layout in plain text, meaning that the HTML tags would all be visible to the moderators that approve the post layouts, making it almost impossible to sneak some crafty exploit code in because it would be so obvious when you see it. Editing a post layout would of course lead to needing re approval as well. After the layout has passed the 1st inspection, it could be previewed within a emulated page of posts, and any strange HTML glitches that appear would be grounds for disapproving the post layout. Anyway, that's the idea...don't flame me too bad if it's stupid. |

I don't think we need a layout approval system, heck we don't even need the ROM hacking approval system anymore. But before anyone even thinks of that the Post layout feature will have to be implemented |

I'm going to have to agree with Tarale on this one. |

I agree with Tarale. Honestly, even though individual posts could look cool, overall they just didn't flow with each other well. General beautification would be great. |

Layouts aren't really needed...they load really slowly on dialup (yes, some people still have dialup. I have cable at my apartment, but when I visit my parents I'm stuck with dialup.), they tend to distract from the post content (especially when there is a scroll bar or the post text uses only a small area of the table cell), peop0le tend to use tiny fonts, and not everyone has the artistic talent necessary to make a decent layout.
We should have signatures like every other board system in existence. |

Layouts were what helped make Acmlmboard different from "every other board in existance"...
And christ, people there was an option to disable them ____________________ I dealt with it. |

Layouts were a way for me to express my creativity.
If you don't like it, you can take this job and shovel it. ____________________ |

Posted by Xkeeper Full agreement. Besides layouts are what pushed me to lean css and html. Why stop that right for other users? ____________________ |

I always enjoyed looking at peoples layouts, it let me see different styles of creativity and sometimes gave me inspiration. I mean having a perfect board is alright, but having an imperfect board with different post layouts always put a little hint of happiness in my day. And the post layout approval would hopefully eliminate the really bad layouts before they even hit the spotlight, aka, contrasting colors, bad markup, etc. |

Personally, the post layouts were a way to show individuality in a board of quite a good amount of people. If there were to be a post layout generic and variations of it then people wouldn't be able to show their creativity. Creativity is what made the original board.acmlm.org (quite a few years ago).
But as for setting up a layout approval system, there would need to be quite a few people on that "staff" just to go through that and make sure it all works right. |

Even without layouts there are a few XSS vulnerabilities. I'm not going to post them, but Xkeeper, they are the same ones I contacted you about on the other board. I could PM you about them if you want, along with some suggestions on how to fix them. |

The whole idea of the approval system was also to prevent XSS exploits before they hit the users browser.... thus preventing a large number of users from getting there accounts compromised. I managed to compromise a lot of accounts when I did the XSS in my layout back in April 2006. |

Eh, I'm kind of on the fence again. A lot of layouts were great (Acmlm, Hiryuu, Tarale, a few others), but a lot were just barely not eye-gouging (but not bad enough to be removed...)
For some reason, back in the "old" days layouts were more tolerable ____________________ I dealt with it. |
