While working on my Proto Man hack of Mega Man 3, I decided to take a break and put Proto Man in Mega Man 2 as I orginally started hacking this game several years back, but decided there were quite a few hacks of this title out there already. This isn't a major hack, as I'm still pretty busy hacking Mega Man 3, but I've got a few e-mails asking for this, so it's now posted in the uploader. I took the time to draw Proto Man's shield in with his sprite tiles, I didn't use the proto Man sprite from Mega Man 3, I tried making an orginal....

I also changed the text to kind of give Proto reason for being in the game, I've also changed other minor graphics here and there, as well as a title screen. The game really don't have a title... so if any of you out there want to use this to make your own Proto Man hack, feel free... all I ask is that you let me know as I'd be interested in seeing what others come up with as far as levels and ASM work.
I plan on adding new levels and such once Proto Man Vengeance get's completed, but that is still a long way off. Enjoy the patch!

I don't know what's the difference between this one in the Board 2 uploader and this other one created by Twytch which is here.

I noticed that you change the cannon's GFX. And Protoman didn't have a shield until Mega Man III. At least it makes a lot more sense.

To be honest, I didn't know someone else had made a patch for this... If I had, I wouldn't have uploaded mine. I took a look at the "Mega Missions" patch your refering to made by Twytch, and noticed quite a few differences...

In the READ ME file he says he couldn't give Proto Man his shield because it didn't fit in with Mega Man's sprite tiles??? Not sure what's going on there, as I had no problem adding his shield in.

He also claims Proto Man didn't get his shield until Mega Man 3... well, up until MM3... Proto Man wasn't even introduced into the series... so I'm not sure what his theory on this was. His patch was basically Proto Man's head on Mega Man's body, as he states again in the READ ME...

Also, he didn't change all the Mega Man tiles for the ending of the game, so I'm guessing it was one of those hacks that never got completed... that's too bad, cause It seemed like he had something cool going on with this idea... anyway, we now have two Proto Man patches for this game to choose from.

I guess yours is pretty better. Except his Palette number should be 16, not 26. There's only hack that can be patched with the US Mega Man II with unchanged Title Screens which is Megaman NEO by Tokkan Kouji. I'm currently doing a runthrough with Proto Man.

You mentioned that Twytch's Mega Man walking scene is incomplete. I better fix it a bit for my run's sake.

Yes, the version of Twytch's patch I downloaded was incomplete... anyway, I fixed the palette in mine. Your right, this patch works with Mega Man NEO created by Tokkan Kouji. The new version has been added to the uploader.

Mega Man Powered up for PSP doesn't compare to the original NES series and even CAPCOM remix the storyline.

Don't know why CAPCOM is doing this. Or even why they put Protoman as a playable character.

In lieu of my usual anti-PSP stance, I'll just say that Blues looks like a turtle when you combine the shield with those body proportions.

I agree.... and, although this may offend certain ppl out there, let me just say Mega Man Powered Up was a bad idea... sorry Capcom, but come on!!! Maverick Hunter X was pretty cool, infact... I enjoyed that one. Mega Man Powered up should have been more like that. I wasn't taken in with the "cartoonish" animation. and gosh... what's up with Mega Man's head, and the rest of the bots for that matter? Big head mode anyone?

Not to make anyone mad, just an opinion.

I'm not going to quote your post since it's right above mine, but according to Inafune, he said Megaman Powered up is what he originally wanted Megaman 1 to look like but due to the limitations of the consoles of the time he had to go with a different style.

I'll have to agree with that. I saw a documentary about video games once, and it had some shots of Shigeru Miyamoto designing "Donkey Kong". The original character designs were recognizable, but the final product... well, you know what "Donkey Kong" looks like, right?

Mega Man is primarily targeted at little kids, so the Japanese wanted to make Mega Man appear "cute." It's a friendly way to invite the new generation to enjoy Mega Man games, if you will.

The big head, small body style is popular here (Japan) these days; I'm unsure why but whatever floats their boat, I suppose. And for figures to have to endure such a wicked fate, I'd say the biggest battle they fight is to maintain their balance and not tip over at any given moment.

I guess I can see that... I mean marketing the game more for the children. Since I've posted this comment, I've gone back and played MM Powered Up. I guess I should be more open minded, but it's just not the Mega Man I'm used to. However, it is what it is... not a horrible game, but certainly not one of my favs. Overall, it was a fun play. Now is Capcom planing a remake of megaman 2 or X2? Cause a Maverick Hunter X2 would be nice, as I enjoyed the first one almost as much as the orginal SNES title.

I know Keiji Inafune wants to remake the rest of the Original and X series, but basically Capcom wasn't properly motivated by the sales numbers on the two existing titles. So, they aren't likely to be done any time soon.

If only remaking Mega Man could have the same charm as remaking Final Fantasy. Squeenix garners even more fans now that they're introduced to the older FF that most haven't played.

Then again, it's hard to compare the possibilities of remaking an RPG to a platformer, though Zero Mission is proof that they can be successful. Meh, conflicting thoughts. XD

Even though Mega Man Powered Up wasn't a hit with a lot of people but having the option to Play as Guts Man, Bomb Man or Even Cutman was a pretty sweet enough option and also Roll was available as a Playable character. Having those kinds of bonuses made the made very exceptional in my book it certainly wasn't Mega Man Maverick Hunter X but it was a very fun game. Maverick Hunter X on the other hand was cool to watch and play.

Too bad. It's called a retcon - and even then, seeing as Protoman wasn't even INTRODUCED until Megaman 3, it still proves that he had a shield.

Wow! It's extremly awesome man! I love ProtoMan, and I always trying to hack him! But I just don't know how to hack NES ROMs... It's good that I finally I can play as ProtoMan!
