Gen 3 is by far the best one in terms of gameplay and replay value.
While gen 2 is much better in say, music and graphics. (Looking at it from system standards.)

However... I fail to see how people can say that gen 1 is the best. Gen 2 is by far better in almost, if not, every way.

Over the years they have changed the formula on how they design the monster. So yeah, if you like the old style then fine. I personally like some monsters from all. But making that as your main argument why to not get new games is just stupid. Many of the old monsters are still in the newer games. Plus, having even more variation in monsters to chose from was never a bad thing last time I checked. (Though D&P&Pt failed at this due to bad game design.)

Not to rain on your parade, 'cause I know you're trying to stress how ridiculously imbalanced that Pokemon is, but I always had fun kicking his ass with rentals on Pokemon Stadium (R2 version has the exact move setup you mentioned, with Blizzard and Rest over Recover). I'd always open up with Thunder Wave, then I'd either have the rest of the team with Explosion usually kill him in two uses of the move or I'd have the other five team members use Horn Drill/Fissure/Guillotine to see how many turns would go before he got one-shot. Ah, good times, good times.

Mewtwo goes down pretty easily with that Thunder Wave + Explosion strategy I just mentioned, and no human player is gonna' give him Rest instead of Recover...so once you've cripped him with Thunder Wave, it's pretty much game over for Mr. Pwnage. Of course, having to use two or three Pokemon just to kick Mewtwo's ass really sucks, and if your opponent is actually using Mewtwo for competitive play, then odds are he's one of those brats that brought four more and a Mew or is a cheat abuser.

That's what I'm talking about though. Having to set up an entire team just to take care of Mewtwo just seems so unfavorable for the other person. And I'm sorry, I should have meant linked battle, where you don't see the other person's Pokemon until you fight them. Were you pit against a Mewtwo that had a remotely intelligent setup, unless your team was specialized to handle it, you lost.

It's true that a powerhouse can be taken down with enough strategy, but it seems ridiculous that you have to use Pokemon as martyrs just to whittle him down. And besides, even if Mewtwo got those few Amnesias down and maxed out his special, unless he was already paralyzed, there wasn't much you can do at that point, explosion tactics (since he was faster than most Pokes) or not.

Though I guess there are occasions in other games like this. Dullahan from Golden Sun is one example. Killing him in Anemos Sanctum wasn't so bad, but having to fight him in the arena... I gave up whenever that happened.

Yeah, you're right. It would have been better if Mewtwo simply were unattainable; as you've likened him to "that one boss" from the typical RPG, I'm sure Gamefreak's intent was for him to simply overpower everything else in much the same way. There was no golden rule of balance back then.

And let's face it: the sucker is STILL damn powerful now. He may go down a lot easier, but he will tear a hole through almost any team that is unprepared to handle an uber.

Was Dullahan from the first or second GS? I recall being able to battle in the arena indefinitely at level ~50 (all party) in GS2...

He was from Golden Sun 2, but it was imperative that you had a linked file from GS1 so you can get all of the Djinn, otherwise you couldn't even enter Anemos Sanctum.

If you're certain you encountered Dullahan in the arena before and still be able to go on indefinitely, I almost wouldn't believe you. The more battles you fight, the stronger enemies get. Even normal enemies can pose a threat after so many of them. Dullahan in Anemos Sanctum is already strong enough to fight normally. I'd imagine he'd plow through anyone after enough arena battles regardless of team setup.

Nevertheless, if you still claim you could do it with Dullahan around, I consider you a god among men. o___o

Deadbeard was the super boss from GS1, and while he was "hard," he's pitiful compared to any of the GS2 optional bosses. He even had a finite PP supply, which was fixed for his "clone," Sentinel, in GS2.

Due to djinn being essentially infinitely reusable, I was able to keep my HP/PP up, summoning when enough djinn had been used, etc. Plus I had a party setup that wasn't "9 Venus djinn on Felix / 9 Mars Djinn / etc", iirc Felix was a Ronin and I don't remember the rest of the classes. Also being able to swap party members was a huge help for even MORE djinn madness.

NightKev: Since this thread is about Pokemon and not about Golden Sun, I created a thread to continue discussing it here. XD
