It was a Dominant, too. They tend to be expensive. It's still connected, but the metal outside has come apart at one point. Is it okay to just keep playing with it until it snaps completely? Anyone know a good place online for strings? I probably will want a full A-D-G-C set as well, for spares. I really hate Red Label strings though. They suck. |

Do you mean that the string has begun to unravel? If so, you can keep playing on it but be aware that it won't probably sound as good as it did before. You should replace the strings as soon as you can.
As for an online place I'm not sure. Where do you usually buy string and accessories from? Try wherever you shop online. I used to use Dominant strings on my violin until my private teacher told me that Obbligato strings were better. Those are even more expensive than Domminants ($30-$40 a string). You could look into those but I know that cello strings are much more expensive than violin. ____________________ |

Jargars are good too, I'm pretty sure. |

They're mostly for cellos, I believe. |

WTF... guitar strings are like $5 for a whole set. What are those things made out of. Generally speaking, I think that playing an instrument with out all the strings in place will cause an imbalance in the bridge, meaning it could possibly start twisting to one side. But I'm not sure exactly how Cellos are rigged, it might be a bit different from a guitar. Just out of principle I'd replace the string b/c it would bother the hell out of me, even at $40 a pop. ____________________ Zelda Hacking Forum hobbies: delectatio morosa |

I know, tensional forces and such. Cellos are not flimsy though, and I'm not too worried about that, as I can always move the bridge if it shifts a bit. They have gut, steel, or synthetic (Dominants are nylon, I think) cores surrounded by metal winding. It's a lot cheaper to get a A-D-G-C set instead of the individual strings though, so I'm considering just buying a full set. I might opt for a Jargar set, since I've never tried them before, and I've heard they're pretty good. |
