I have come to the conclusion that when I choose people for references to put down on a job application form that I should choose people who have good hearing.

Out of three people, I was only able to make my intentions clear to one of them because of this.

One of them accused me of having a job application for them.

And the other one thought I had called the number looking for the person I had announced myself as.

Goddamned hearing loss.

~zkip:
Oh hey board, speaking of jobs, I just send in a job application down at the local Dollar General for part-time work over the holidays. Figured I'd pick up a little extra cash on the side while I can, and it's really close to so that's a plus.

I recently found out, however, that they do drug testing. I'm really nervous because I made a bad decision a couple of days ago pertaining to this. Aye, whatever happens, happens I suppose.

Seriously though, a Dollar General doing drug testing?!?

If it was anything but marijuana you can probably get away with it.
That surprises me that drug testing for part time workers is in their budget though...

I just finished the skyward sowrd! It was a pretty good game, the mini-bosses seemed kinda uncreative and I was constantly centering the wii motion plus cause it kept going out of sync, but yeah, I'd probably play it again sometime.

Yeah, the Wiimote tends to go out of sync all the time for me in Skyward Sword, which can make things a little annoying. But this game makes up for it with the presence of Ghirahim.

This might be old, but I found this pretty neat; this guy takes pictures of various cities in (either lens-induced, or simulated in postprocessing; I'm not sure) nearly parallel projection and with low depth-of-field, effectively making them look deceptively like game or model towns.

I've seen that before, but it's still pretty cool. It's mind-boggling how he can make a city look fake, especially when there's people in the photo.

And for yet another interesting link from the interdepths, this talk almost had me on the floor for a while. Spare 4 minutes if you can.

It took a bit to build up, but the ending is worth it.

Not that I think that we will be going on for much longer at the present levels of activity, anyway...

Personally, my normal life has reached the point at which it's just demanding enough to detract from my online presence lately.
I'm looking at calculus and chemistry mid terms the following week, and I have an article due for my college's newspaper by Wednesday that I have yet to start. I keep putting the work off because it will mean wading through a fifteen minute recorded interview to find the few pieces of information relevant enough to merit inclusion in the article. :/

And of course besides the academics, I'm continuing my calisthenic training. On Friday morning I trained by handstand-jumping from a thirty inch platform to the ground, with a 30% success rate, and I can now hold a flagpole (with sloppy form) for up ten seconds on my right side, with a closed palms-inward grip. The achievements are still relatively modest, but I've only been actively training them for a little under a month now. By June, I hope to have a ten second flag with good form on either arm, and a 80% success rate or higher for handstand hops.

Wait, this counts as calisthenics? Not that I know anything, but I always was under the impression that the term denotes something closer to performing elaborate stretches in large group exercises...

I've always heard calisthenics used to describe any resistance exercise done with bodyweight. So I suppose it's not the most applicable name for handstand jumping, but since I consider that more of a fringe activity within the same vein as the bodyweight exercises I normally do, I figured I would just refer to it under the same name.

Heh, and I just like the way the word 'calisthenics' sounds more than the alternatives anyway.

So is there anything particular you are training towards or is it just a "for the sake of it" thing? I remember peter_ac talking about doing similar exercises motivated by his Parkour hobby...

It's essentially a "for the sake of it" thing. About two years ago I decided I wanted to learn to walk on my hands and I found out I really enjoyed it. From there I found there was an entire subculture surrounding bodyweight-only exercise, and I started to push myself to do more and more of the movements. If they're done right, they look awesome, feel awesome, and build phenomenal strength.

Some more work on my RPG engine. A general project thread in Computing would be nice to have, too, I think...
