I think this would be a good point to change the topic before the risk rises.

Eighties music. Any favorites?

I don't think I really listened to much of it, it was before my time, and my parents had more classical/foreign tastes. I think the earliest band I can think of that I liked was the Smashing Pumpkins (which I guess was in fact founded in the 80s!).

Right, but there's no convenient parallel to Chrome's Ctrl+Click.

There was one feature I really liked about Opera, switching between tabs by pressing 1 or 2, but then they took that out

You can middle-click a link to open it in a new tab.

... And it won't shift focus to the new tab? I admit I did not know that. Useless for me, though, as my laptop doesn't support a middle click on its touchpad.

You could enable mouse gestures. Right click on a link, down stroke, up stroke, release to open the link in a background tab. If you start the gesture not on a link, it clones the current tab. You can modify the defaults or set your own as well. I really love the mouse gestures feature, it's pretty damn useful.

Not gonna lie mouse gestures are real cool. I do find annoyingly often, though, that when I have to use Opera (Campus computers only have IE, Fx, and Opera, of which my preferred is definitely Opera) I do mouse gestures accidentally sometimes. And Opera still does have annoying compatibility issues. Plus... Unlike every other browser, Chrome loads up in seconds.

Again, I don't hate Opera, I just prefer Chrome and want to defend it against claims of it sucking.

Ah, yeah, Chrome without extensions is lightning fast. Unfortunately it becomes somewhat slow if you add more than one or two, or perhaps especially if you add certain ones (maybe?). Vanilla Chrome is extremely lightweight though, yeah.

I don't use extensions. Well, adblock for certain sites, but that's it.

I think I read somewhere that it uses whatever's available or something. You have at least 500 megs available, so that it'll use. Something like that. I think there's better info on this on the Opera site somewhere.
Memory not used is memory wasted. People used to be alarmed over how little free space some OS's leave, when in the end it's just trying to use as much of the free space as possible for disk cache.

Same thing with most web browsers today. In theory, most of them are supposed to adapt their memory usage depending on the memory available, but I'm not too sure how that works in practice.

At work my Firefox is using around 180 MB right now, been running all day and with webpages opened and closed. At home where Firefox probably been running for awhile have 220 MB used on it's "private working set".

In the end, as long IE becomes less dominant in the market... but also puts pressure on the IE team to implement stuff that every other browser is doing, I'm happy with that.

I think it is. What about it? Overused or a good reason to get some other songs from the same guy, like I have?

Opera's locked up twice yesterday, I hope it doesn't continue. I think it was caused by Neritic Net and its shitload of Javascript, but the second time, NN wasn't opened. In any case if repeated lockups happen again I'll be going back to Firefox.

Not quite.

Memory not used is free memory for more programs to run, I'd say.

Apologies for the downtime.

The server was being moved to a new datacenter and I completely forgot about acknowledging everybody in advance. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Consider it a case of emergency taxation.

Some staff members are with those socialist healthcare-mongering atheist Europeans.

I recall I got disconnected from the IRC as well; is the IRC server the same server as Board2's, or owned by the same hosting company?
