Nintendo needs to seriously follow Capcom's lead, and make an all-new 8-bit Zelda game like the original.

Seriously, you guys? I was just messing around with the editors to see if I could make anything interesting.

If you all like it that much, then I could try to take it further...

It's mostly about space, and also because the game has to be published at some point. In Zelda 1, have 8 banks of 0x4000 bytes. You can't go over that without specific modifications on bank switching routines.

Unused Space in Legend of Zelda, The (U) (PRG0) [!].nes :

Bank 0: D60 + 1F57 + 3A = 2CF1
Bank 1: 52 + 13C + 7FF + 3A = 9C7
Bank 2: A1 + 129 + D0 + FC0 + 3A = 1294
Bank 3: 1375 + 3A = 13AF
Bank 4: 19 + 1F + 2B + 46 + AE1 + 3A = BC4
Bank 5: 63 + AE + 3D6 + 6B0 + 3A = BD1
Bank 6: 41 + 7D + 29A + 1287 + 3A = 1619
Bank 7: C + 2B = 37

Total: 8AE0 bytes (35552 decimal)

Since you have lots of free space to play with (more than 2 banks worth of free space), you could probably create a few more dungeons, assuming you can build the necessary ASM routines to account for the new pointers...

Which I can't, but vanilla is a great test of creativity.

I'm surprised there's THAT much free space, though, given the exhaustive amount of work Nintendo put into compressing the game in the first place.

That Zelda 3 hack is looking amazing!

I hate that the Arc Nova forums are toast because I can't follow the progress of Black Magic. I hate Hyrule Magic because you have to work with 32x32 tiles, which is a real pain.

Oh Mineyl, I noticed that there are a lot of editors for Zelda 1. Which one did you use for editing the dungeons?

I used Dungeon Master for the dungeon and (attempted to use) Zelda Tech for the overworld. I found Dungeon Master a much easier program to utilize, but dungeons themselves are much easier to edit in general.

Ah thanks. By the way I favorited your Zelda 1 video because I love the nostalgia. I don't really ROM hack anymore, but if I come up with some good ideas, you never know I might put together a good dungeon.

Sweet god, I looked at those Parallel Universe screenshots and my jaw literally dropped. I'm absolutely loving how everything looks, it gives it a whole new style and boy do I love it when games give a fresh new look to them.

Edit: Seeing that in progress actually makes me want to work on my old Chrono Trigger project. I think I might re-do more graphics for it and import them in

Wow, this is great to see some Chrono Trigger hacking on the way. Glitchy and beta, but a great start. It looks like the future in which we can't roam in because Lavos destroys everything...

Yea, I've had a hand in a number of Chrono Trigger hacks and such. I was working on this one years ago but I kept loosing interest. I still do even now but I'm really wanting to bring it back to life. I'm aiming to get at least one basic Tile Set setup so I can work on maps a little, then hopefully get working on things from there.

Justin, if I was you, I would be careful with the Chrono Trigger hacking.
You know what happened with the Crimson Echoes Project?

I still think SE had no legal basis for squashing a fan project like that.
And I think they we're wrong to do it in general. In fact it probably hurt their sales more than it protected them.

Oh yea, I know all about that issue. If Square Enix was serious about doing something, they would have sued thousands of people by now with how many hacks and modifications have been done or at least started.

Their legal basis was completely wrong from what I know of and read. I also heard, I can't remember if it was true or not, but the jack ass that reported put on the grounds that they were hacking the DS version and going to sell the game. So all information they stated is pretty much outright wrong if that case is true.

Plus, there's a lot of Crimson Echoes modifications popping up and there's nothing being done on those.

The graphics look rather impressive, though you should perhaps try to aim for a more homogeneous graphical style.

Yeah I know that, many graphics clash with each other right now, I don't really mind as it's still a work in progress that I keep updating as I go, it's far from perfect but if you look at earlier screens from a year ago you'll see that it's slowly but surely taking shape.

Here's a new area I've made after watching just about too much Fringe episodes... It's safe to say Googie should be pleased since he asked about something similar a while back

I don't remember if I asked this before SePH my bad if I did. What state will that city take place in, New York? If it were maybe you could add The Unisphere and/or Terrace on the park. Keep up the kick ass work man, it's kewl...

That's no Unisphere or Terrace on the park through, but those towers and zeppelin sure are a good trade! Not really sure if that's where the statue of Liberty is through, but that's where it's going to be in that universe lol

The WTC are the Koopa twin towers. This is Link's world now and not reality.

I've hit the ground rolling with this SMB3 hack again. Below are some screenshots I had ready for 7-6, a neat pipe level submerged at first. Why does the fish splash underwater? That's for you to find out later.
