Anyone have it, or know someone that has it? And do you think it's a made up condition to explain being lazy, or an actual condition?

I swear I have it, I've taken several online tests and they all say that I have high ADD tendencies. I sometimes wonder if I'm really just imagining things and It's all in my head. I don't think I'll ever know since life seems like a dead end street for me. My parents claim I was tested in middle school, I swear I never was. And if I was tested, by whom and where are the test results now (they couldn't find the test results).

Garrr....

I'm not sure if I have it, although I do have everything else.

I can't sit still for long though, I have to get up and pace around every so often. Unfortunately, there's apparently a troublesome floorboard in this apartment which causes the window downstairs to rattle and the people who live there to complain at me being too loud.

So get tested again, if you're really that concerned about it?

And eh, I did know someone with it though.. Sort of an ex-friend of mine, quite the annoying fellow whom was all too dependent on me to do things for him. I mean, he was a nice guy and all, but no matter how great or small the task, he'd poke at me and have me do it for him, it was frustrating since it really never seemed like he even tried to do much.

Plus, once he ever did get involved in something, he became.. obsessive if things didn't work correctly right away, and go into a sort of fit over it, only making it worse the more agitated he became.. that usually ended up with me fixing it for him, like everything else... All of this, built up over years of tension (on my end) lead to me just breaking off the relationship I had with him.. sucks, because he was a damn fine wrriter and we probably could have done some amazing things together.. but his priorities with writing were crap, and I ended up having to pull both my and his weight together far too often. Just didn't have the willpower for it anymore...

I did break it off as easily as possible though, and didn't cut off communication or anything.. At first he seemed to take that really well too, and still spoke to me every once and awhile. But at some point or another, he just.. stopped, he cut communication off on his end and hasn't spoken to me since. It is odd, since it seemed like (initially afterwards) he wanted my opinion on some of the new things he was writing and what not.. I was happy to help, and all seemed okay, but then.. he never got back to me and I haven't heard back since. (He confused the crap out of me with things like this.. I've checked for those wondering, he's fine and all, he just suddenly decided he didn't want to talk anymore..)

Ehh.. I tried to get him help before too, but it seemed more like he wasn't interested in any help beyond my direct assistence with something.. plus, although probably totally unrelated to ADD, he had horrid memory, so it was pretty much a "spinning the wheel" deal when trying to work it out..

I have ADHD. I take no medicine for it because I don't seem to be affected by it. Funny how my past medicines always made me lose my appetite....

Its true, ritalin has fucked with my appetite to a pretty annoying level. I'm not too fond of it but sadly have become accustomed to those effects ;\

I was diagnosed with ADD, and I was taking adderall, which also messed with my appetite.

I think ADD/ADHD is bullshit... it's just a name they give people who don't pay attention to stuff they're not interested in.

Pretty much. More than a few dozens of the various friends I've had since I was little, had one or the other.

Hell doctors would probably say I have ADD because I find it hard to stop thinking about stuff when I try sleeping (insomnia).

I realize those medications can help people, but seriously its as if half the United States is supposedly diagnosed with it, and its just a little ridiculous.

I don't know.. After being around that guy for so many years, I had a hard time dismissing his actions as anything.. normal, or quirky even. He just seemed unnaturally uninterested in doing much of anything and pushed me into doing it for him instead.

Ehh.. It is possible he was just like that, but he was really a good guy at heart so I don't like to think that he might have just been using me, or that he might have actually been able to apply himself and stop needing me for every little thing if I pushed harder... It seemed more like a real disorder to me, especially toward the end, but no amount of pushing to get him involved in any help for it worked.. So yea.. I dunno.

I actualy would have to disagree. Perhaps its a psychological thing, but I more than certainly notice a difference in my concentrative ability as a result of the ADD. when I have the ritalin in my system, during school I am able to focus a great deal more, or if I am working at something, my concentration is better and I'm able to stay on track. Whereas with out (the majority of the time, as I only typically take it the morning before a school day), I notice its a bit harder for me to keep focus on some things.

Again, it might just be psychological. But I really wouldn't say its bullshit, for sure ;x

Nope, surprisingly. Given how many distractions I see every day at work/on the subway/etc... I stay focused on my work/iPod.

I think that, conversely, ADD is just overdiagnosed for worried parents who hope little Billy isn't screwed up. God knows doctors are going to prescribe anything...

But honestly, there might be some real cases of it, but I'm sure most of it is just crap.

I have ADD. It maybe a little over diagnosed, but its still a very real neurological disorder, verifiable on brain scans.

Thought processes are verifiable on brain scans, but as for the validity of them--that science hasn't made that much progress, I might affirm.

<!--stupid center and width hack-->
I have ADD symptoms, but I do not have ADD. Many of the symptoms of ADD can be caused by other conditions, such as mood disorders, illnesses, stress, etc as well so the problem might not be ADD.

For instance, Depression can cause many ADD symptoms (which in turn can then exacerbate Depression). I am on a medication used for ADD and Depression to treat my particular Atypical Depression, after the doctor identified some of my ADD tendencies and the link between my inability to concentrate with my mood / self esteem.

I had ADD tendencies in High School simply because I was stressed out and upset by events that occurred at the time.

I had really bad ADD tendences following surgery because the anaesthetic messes my head up really bad.

You could get yourself checked out by a psychologist if you like.

I've always thought of myself as having ADHD but completely controlling it. Though, I haven't been tested for it officially as long as I can remember... hmm.

Posted by Wikipedia
Inattention:

1. Failure to pay close attention to details or making careless mistakes when doing schoolwork or other activities
2. Trouble keeping attention focused during play or tasks
3. Appearing not to listen when spoken to
4. Failure to follow instructions or finish tasks
5. Avoiding tasks that require a high amount of mental effort and organization, such as school projects
6. Frequently losing items required to facilitate tasks or activities, such as school supplies
7. Excessive distractibility
8. Forgetfulness
9. Procrastination, inability to begin an activity
10. Difficulties with household activities (cleaning, paying bills, etc.)
11. Difficulty falling asleep, may be due to too many thoughts at night
12. Frequent emotional outbursts
13. Easily frustrated
14. Easily distracted

Hyperactivity-impulsive behaviour

1. Fidgeting with hands or feet or squirming in seat
2. Leaving seat often, even when inappropriate
3. Running or climbing at inappropriate times
4. Difficulty in quiet play
5. Frequently feeling restless
6. Excessive speech
7. Answering a question before the speaker has finished
8. Failure to await one's turn
9. Interrupting the activities of others at inappropriate times
10. Impulsive spending, leading to financial difficulties

1: Check. Albegra kills me.
2: Check. Focusing requires effort for most tasks.
3: Check. I used to get yelled at for not paying attention *constantly*, even though I did.
4: Not check.
5: Check. Well, using my own opinions of what takes mental effort...
6: Check. Not that I mean to.
7: Check. I'm doing this right now, aren't I?
8: Semi-check. I forget things most people remember, remember many things most people forget.
9: Hahaha. Triple check.
10: ... Not difficulties, just aversion.
11: Semi-check. I've figured out how to get around it, but it was a serious problem when I was young
12: No. Not at all. Not nowadays, at least. When I was young, yes.
13: Semi-check. Easily annoyed, but amazingly patient.
14: um. This is the same as 7.

1: Check
2: ... Nah
3: I have the urge to. Semi-check.
4: Used to, learned to control it.
5: Check
6: Opposite. But excessive thought, YES.
7: I used to. Again, I learned patience, so no.
8: Patience.
9: ...
10: No, I tend to be overly concerned about waste.

Conclusion: I'm glad I'm not still young? XD
Granted, Wikipedia's definitely not the best source for this, but I do still think that I have ADHD, but because I think so drastically different than most people, it doesn't seem as though I do.
I've actually come to think of ADHD as almost a boon, if controlled correctly. If nothing else, learning to control it has taught me several things about thought I'm glad to have learned.

Almost all of those symptoms just indicate absentmindedness and a lack of focus in life, which would tend to describe a great body of the population.

1. Absentmindedness on my part
2. Don't have that problem
3. Or that one
4. Or that one
5. I do those first, heh heh. They're my favorite.
6. More absentmindedness
7. If anything people have a hard time distracting me
8. I don't forget very often. It makes for weird situations. ("Remember when you stubbed your toe 3 years ago? No?")
9. Minor but not significant amount of times for this to happen.
10. Those are easy.
11. Of course I think too much to sleep sometimes, but otherwise sleeping is easy.
12. Nope
13. Actually I am too stubborn, not easily frustrated.
14. Hey, you already asked that, and no.

---
1. My favorite thing to do. *Spins*
2. Not when inappropriate. Otherwise..
3. I do have a tendency to run in hallways and other places.
4. Quietness is easy. In fact I can sneak up on people pretty effectively.
5. Not frequently enough for this test, apparently.
6. *Writes an entire speech to answer this one question*
7. I also answer questions meant for other people.
8. I wait my turn.
9. Occasionally.
10. I have money, specifically because I don't spend impulsively.

---

I once had ADD, and once was an insane running-around inattentive crazy person. But I turned it around into Hyperfocus, and with that I can gain ungodly amounts of attention to one task--therefore my ADD is officially 'defeated.'

Unless you find something wrong with dancing in hallways when walking to different places?
