There appears to be plenty of great bosses made by the community, but not really a lot of try files. I credit this to the boss editor being very intuitive with a great WYSIWYG aspect to it, while tries are more akin to programming, have no editor, and require a completely different set of skills.

I'm not likely to ever be a great boss creator. My reflexes are piss-slow so I cannot balance difficulty very effectively, and while I can create functional bosses as well as anyone else the aesthetic appeal of said bosses will never match what I've seen on the Compendium. I do have one thing going for me however, and that's try files. I have quite a programming affinity and I find tries to be quite easy to make.

I've begun work on a massive beast of a try with some major RPG elements and plot thrown in, and I was wondering if anyone would like to make enemies for it. It's a very ambitious project but I am confident that I am up to the task.

I could make some enemies for you. A boss of mine actually summons a few, so I could give you those.

You could use my r500; however, you can't fight it on fixed screen mode.

Zax, he hasn't visited the board in almost a year, you really shouldn't have bumped this thread. At the least, this should've been a PM. Anyway, make sure to check that the person you're trying to contact actually visits the board still...

O HAI THAR

>.>

Truth be told I didn't see a lot of interest, so I just kind of bailed on the site. Good thing I make a habit of googling my online handle every now and then for hate groups (I am amazingly unliked through no fault of my own), and my timing is amazing. Three days is stupidly quick for a response. I guess I better fire up the email, then...

I am sending you a copy of my Project G Try file with the proper (and stable for its time) Fraxy engine. With all the upgrades since way back then, I have no idea if a complicated Try like this one is possible without generating an error somewhere along the line. The more complicated the engine gets, the harder it will be to do a professional looking Try file, since even by mon's description the engine is spaghetti code to begin with.

The more advanced Try file is "Project G Alpha Challenge 009".

However, the *longer* Try is "Project G Advanced", and contains about an hour of gameplay.

Project G Alpha Challenge 009 was built as a first stage with an independent ranking system based on time expended and score achieved, as well as experimenting with backgrounds.

Project G Advanced was built to be newbie friendly, and slowly ramp up the difficulty while wearing even experienced players out. I have yet to 1CC Project G Advanced after two years of attempting it, and I only designed enemies for 12 of the planned 25 stages.

Good luck!

I know I might be getting off-topic here, but an hour-long Try? Whoa.

Looks like easy enough stuff.

To code, that is. Fuck me if I can actually play through either without dying. The thing about your try (and this isn't necessarily a bad thing!) is that it's really nothing you couldn't enact yourself in free play. I know shmups aren't really the industry standard for engaging story and character development, but I feel it just needs a little more... I don't know. Stuff.

Of course, I can't comment on the stability of Fraxy. I know what should be possible within the engine, but have no clue whether the whole thing will flop like a house of cards if it's actually pushed. I do know that 20100319Beta has this odd glitch where shooting your enemy will disrupt its attack patterns and that doesn't bode well for much of anything at the moment.

I'll see if I can put together a demostration of some of the more interesting things I found were possible, but it might be a while. Real life. You know how it goes.

EDIT: Also, you used RPG Maker music for your try? That's hilarious!

I'm around and willing to make any kind of boss you would like for this try. Send me some information on what you would like and I'll get right onto it if you're interested.

I'm sorry but I have way too much stuff to do and I can't really get into Fraxy for a while. I'll wave a flag around in this topic when I find some time.
