Now that the e-level documentation has been figured out, maybe someone can make an e-level editor where it just spits out a save file. You don't have to edit the actual ROM when doing this, and it's easier to get this data onto an actual cart if you really tried. Those with flash carts would love this.

It still should spit out the raw e-reader dotcode. Or add different levels to the save game.

Other neat stuff may be considered after such an editor exists (like saving e-reader levels to rom and stuff).

It should spit BIN e-Reader file. It's very easy to do that.

And a tool to insert BIN files into a save for emulator use. Else you'll get the n00b questions on how to use No$GBA.

NO$GBA supports BIN files...
And VBA e-Reader can convert BIN to RAW.

I know, used it lots of times, but it's like the question on how to patch a ROM. same ol, same ol.

We know that the game can hold 32+1 level, but is it possible, as all played levels show up in the list, even deleted ones, to save them in ROM (very possible) and access them mixed with games in flash?

Also the EU version's e-level are deactiated, not unlocked, as the e-reader never made it to europe.

On the other hand, the e-reader reached australian shores, if I'm not mistaken. Anyone has access to one?

The Australian e-Reader is same as the US one...

Managed to finally apply the translated names over to the actual e-reader level card data. These are located on http://caitsith2.com/ereader/sma4.htm

It was the lack of a working compressor that had proven to be the initial road block from doing that.

Yet another thing I have managed to do, deals with the European version of the game. It seems that Nintendo did have plans at one point to release an European e-reader, but pulled the plug on that. Instead of outright removing the code from the European SMA4, they just disabled it, presumably with a button code way of enabling it. (can't prove that yet.)

Of course, even with it enabled, European SMA4 will not communicate with the US e-reader, just like US sma4 won't communicate with Japanese e-reader.

Second, a card loader had been extracted from the game, and turned into a save. Unfortunately, card region checking is done by both the e-reader, locking out ALL but its own region, and by the loader, also locking out all but its own region. This means if you do dump the loader from one e-reader, and put it on an out of region e-reader, That out of region e-reader will pass on the card to the loader, but now the loader is going to reject the card as being out of region.

Next, the game won't communicate with its region loader either. However, that proves to be very trivial to patch. As it turns out, The European version, has 5 different card loaders built in, one for each language the game is playable in. The loader on the e-reader, has to match the language selected. Also trivial, just patch it once, make a save, patch it for the next language, make a save.

End result, is in the same place is the readable translated named cards, is a pack for loading onto an european sma4 and us e-reader. The full thing nintendo locked the europeans out of, has been completely unlocked.

What I meant by unreleased, is unreleased officially in the North American region. 100% of the SMA4 cards were officially unreleased in the European region, and 100% of them were officially released in the Japan region, as far as the official cards go.

i'm just saying, a lot of those cards in the unreleased directory were not unreleased in the us/na.

Can you show me pictures of those cards then, as proof of them having been released?

Anyways, I went and did a more detailed character map, used by US/EU version of SMA4, for level names. (Jap version uses shift-jis as far as I know.)

caitsith2, let me get that straight. The e-reader checks regions of card and loader only at startup time (i.e, when a card is loaded directly trough the e-reader software or by linking it to another device). and after that, the e-reader doesn't care anymore, but now the loader application restricts usage of out ouf region cards or carts.

Or short: Patching loader and SMA4 is enough, e-reader is untouched?

And I think the e-reader part of the European version is unlocked by changing the savegame. So Nintendo had just to include an 'unlock application' with the e-reader or the pack of cards or the game senses the e-reader on the link port.

Something similar happend with Mario vs. Donkey Kong. There was now known e-reader support, but 5 cards where released with extra levels.

I brokened SMA4 save. Results aren't even are good...

No comment... I can't choose any menu command, because cursor goes crazy and pressing A only says OK sound.

(And I used save-converter to have good checksum)

I'm not sure if these e-reader levels exists really, because I can't choose them. I only know that's save which I corrupted was fully CLEAN (I only runned game and closed emulator).

I can send save file to prove this... (brokeing save file? something NEW!)

You know, you don't need to send the save file, if you did that on the Europe version of the game, use my save file (it's on caitsith2's website), which have working Level Card access.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii181/bond697/IMG_0507.jpg

and a list pulled from somewhere else i posed about them:

the first 10 level cards, plus the (star)1-1 card.

also:
orange switch
blue-green switch

demo cards: 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 3-4, 3-8, 4-2, 5-5, 6-7, 7-2

power ups:
super leaf
frog suit
tanooki suit
hammer suit
starman
p-wing
cape
3 fire flowers
3 super leaves
5 starmen
4 item set
3 suit set
8 item set
10-up mushroom
5-up mushroom

also, i notice now that level card 1(wild ride in the sky) and power up card 3(super leaf) are glossy on the back, does that mean those are the ones that came with the game?

if you need any better/individual card pics, let me know.
