Wow... a SMA4 editor...

But how do I edit the levels?

I don't believe that editor can actually edit the levels, only worldmaps. Unless I don't know how to operate it or don't have the right ROM.

Treeki, to answer your question, I would vote to use the second method, which would leave the original game levels unused. Perhaps later down the road something else can be mapped to fill in that spot in the rom? This isn't based on anything technical though, just from what I would see as being easier and more open for editing.

it's odd, because if you take a look at the level editor and "open" a level in it, some circle-things will show up in the level display box. it looks like that part was started but left unfinished.

Anyway, anyone got any idea about the question I asked in my earlier post?

I don't have any experience w/ this. However from the way you describe it, I'd go for option 2. If its easier, I'd go for it. I wouldn't worry about open space. If this takes off like SMW did (like I'm predicting it will), people will find stuff to put there.

I just did edit the bin file of e-card level of "Classic World 1-1", it became this :

It became an "infinite fall" vertical level.

Heeey.

Let's just say...a lot of people from my side of town are also getting interested in this. This can provide a LOT of fun new combinations for Mario hacking, and can end up more versatile than SMW hacking.

While I'm not good at coding or finding ROM values, I can spread word and get massive attention on this. So, in light of this, I'll bring hype, and try to get more people interested.

Just downloaded the editor, and fiddling with the setups.
Let's see what can come of this...

I have found some decompressed e-card levels, i really think that would be useful.

These links shows the uncompressed e-level Data Map :
http://acmlm.no-ip.org/archive3/thread.php?pid=117236&r=1
EDIT : http://acmlm.kafuka.org/archive2/thread.php?id=10412

And remember this link :
http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/thread.php?id=2701

There's a source code for the compressor.

Bump.

And by the way, i talked to Parasyte, he gave me the Level Card decompressor he made with DJ Bouche (with source code).
And i just did check about the source code of the compressor, there's no main function, and you can't load a file to compress it...
Once we can compress, it will be possible to make custom Level Cards !

EDIT :
Here's the compressor :
http://www.mediafire.com/?ntlvgnndgzj

Made by Randy, and thanks to Blackhole89, to help about the main routine.
Binary and Source inside, with an Empty Level Card BIN file, don't forget to read the ReadMe.txt file.

Not really a bump since the thread was posted in just 2 days before...

However, I see the ability to be able to compress or do whatever with the level cards a nice alternative to full hacks, as you can just release your card. (Granted I don't think most emulators actually support the e-reader.)

VBA-M should have support, and No$GBA definitely does.

There's not e-Reader support on VBA-M.
But yeah, on NO$GBA, it definitely emulates this thing, and in link too !

I did some edits on Classic World 1-1, and then compress it and make a Level Card, i did test it on NO$GBA, it works perfectly !

It doesn't support link, which is very important to play Level Cards to SMA4.

Awesome work Kiiro, Randy, and Blackhole89! It's amazing that now there's the ability for people to make their own e-Card levels. It seems perfect for the casual hacker or for those that want to put A-Coins in levels.... unless of course a final SMA4 editor adds A-Coin functionality to the main game (which would be awesome).

Thank you for all of you efforts thus far!

Has anyone else had any developments in building an editor? It seemed like Treeki had a solid understanding about this...

I'll try record and post more youtube stuff to generate more interest and traffic about this. I saw some of you guys have already noticed/posted in the topic I started at SMW central. I'll post a topic to romhacking.net too, steering people to this board. This place seems to be the most interested/serious about SMA4.

Thanks again everyone for your interest! Please keep it going!

Here's a video showing some Music change in "Classic World 1-1" :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKd6q3vdO_A

It's supposed to be the SMB Theme Music (in SMB3 Version), but i changed it.

EDIT :

Here's a working Level Card made from scratch by myself.

Amazing stuff man. This is my dream - to add e-Cards in addition to editing the original game!!!!! It took me a while to ID the music switch to the "Choose a Game" menu music. I also posted a bunch on your youtube video. This is amazing stuff man. Thank you very much for working hard on this and for sharing it with us!
