One of my friends has a Super C hack WIP. Current features:
Changed Levels: -Level 1 has a lot of death gaps. The boss only deploys gunning soldiers and it deploys them a few seconds earlier. -Level 3 has a total separate "floor" above the ground which consists of a long strip of treetops. Enemies and snipers are flooded up there, but cannot reach or shoot you. It also has lots of platform gaps and added stair-steps in the original place. -Level 5 has slightly changed level layout at the start. -Level 6 has a changed beginning. Most levels have a new palette and changed palette of enemies. Slightly modified texts Different guns Different player palettes Player starts with 5 lives, and there are infinite continues (like the original Japanese version) Slightly different Music Player runs faster and respawns in lesser time Goals, things being developed and stuff to be fixed: -The player is still running at regular speed when moving back (to left of screen, side view levels) and on top view levels. -Change the 10-life cheat to either 30 lives or back to 3 lives (in homage to the infamous Contra 1993 pirate), depending on public opinion. -Modifying the rest of the levels. -Increasing the number of enemies in certain spots, as well as inter-changing enemies (ex: maybe putting face-hugger eggs on the third stage). -Modifying the appearance of enemies, as well as other properties (how much damage they take, their attack patterns, etc.). -Changing more of the texts, and possibly the font itself of the texts (add credit to the hacking team on the title screen, perhaps, as well as in the credits somewhere... in a stylized manner). The Super C logo seems like it could use a nice color change, and if a redesign of it looks good enough, it can be used. -In the last level, the dropping ceiling isn't functioning at its spot, and instead glitches up the boss fight, removing the entire floor and contniuously spawning those seekers. The boss fight itself is glitched, with a whole bunch of screwy stuff going on. -Even the credits sequence is screwed up. -I'm aware that this one is tricky, but if possible, change the wait-mode demo's. They're out of sync now that the levels are different and it looks quite bad. Now, I'm not too familiar with the capabilities of IPS patching. But, is it possible to combine separate changes together to one IPS patch? Help is well appreciated. PS: This is the first project of mine, and probably my friend's first actual major hack attempt. This is probably far-fetched, but is it possible to replace the demo's that start when the game is left alone on the title screen? |
