I use "Um" and "Uh" when I need to give myself time to think while I'm talking. Also when I don't know the answer to a question. ____________________ If you read this, then you must really be bored. |

As it was explained to me, "um" is what you get when people start talking before they know what to say. The mouth has started but the brain isn't ready yet.
What freaks me out to some extent is that it's not the same in other languages; see "ano" in Japanese. Also, where some people might say "bah" or "pfft", I like to say "keh", much like Inuyasha does. I don't do it just because he does, but that's where I first heard it, and I liked it. |
