Anyone else been following these events?

I am, and I really feel, for whatever little that means, for the Iranian people. They deserve freedom, and through one means or another, they will get it; it is inevitable. The government does not permit peaceful reform, so the only course of action at this point is violent reform -- many state policeman have already been killed, at least one protester (Neda) has been killed -- it is a sad fact of life but it must be done.

For those interested, there is a network called NedaNet in order to help Iranians overcome the Internet censorship that the government is placing upon the people. It contains instructions for setting up a proxy server on whatever server you have to spare; be warned though that you will most likely get death threats, and there is a real possibility of real-life confrontation ...

Your daily relevant dose of crankiness on the subject matter

Seriously, though, at this point, there has been so much desinformation that I really have no idea whatsoever what to believe and what not to believe. Before, Iran never struck me as being so disorganized that the Guardian Council would not be able to provide consistent vote counts and non-conflicting statements, and it seems fairly clear that some international organizations are involved in stirring the pot up. To start, I don't even see anything implausible about Ahmadinejad winning the election, a handful of urban bloggers claiming otherwise not really being a sound argument against it.

Recruiting followers against an enemy of the west, on the conjecture of a rigged election, which is certain to draw sympathy of said west and western-influenced countries, sounds like good strategy to win the seat.

It sounds like the work of a traitor.

Can no one here actually take things seriously without making some stupid joke or comment?
