Well, I sure didn't see any threads regarding this game on the earlier pages of this forum, and if there is one about it then it's probably so ancient and forgotten that I couldn't be blamed for starting a new one anyhow.
So, anyone here familiar with this awesome game? Ever since I first played it a looong while back I have been really attached to it and often replay the entire thing to pretty much 100% completion just to enjoy the experience over again. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, Cave Story is a classic-styled 2D sidescrolling shooter in the same vein as series such as Megaman and Metroid. It's an entirely freeware game that came out back in 2004 for the PC, and was made completely by one person who goes by the name of "Pixel". There's also a revamped Wiiware version that's supposed to be released soon but it keeps getting delayed. I highly suggest anyone here who has never heard of the game, or has but hasn't actually gotten around to playing it, to give it a try as soon as possible. Now, for those of you who have, which I hope is the majority because it's a game that really deserves to be played by the many, this thread is for general discussion about this awesome game. Oh, and on a final note, I found a very interesting and useful fansite that has things ranging from music downloads from the game, to FAQs, to the actual game itself. For those people who haven't played yet this site should easily help you get into the game's unique and interesting world. http://www.cavestory.org |

Posted by boingboingsplat I just finished a playthrough today actually. I got every single item, including stuff like the lipstick and alien medal, but I mixed things up a bit by choosing snake instead of spur for once. It was...well, pretty interesting. Snake's power is nothing compared to spur's incredible strength of course, but the ability to shoot through walls is deliciously unique and handy in many areas. (though unfortunately that doesn't apply 90% of the time when it comes to bosses...) |

Posted by Green-Kirby Heh...everyone gets stuck on that stage at for awhile when they first get to it. I know a few little tricks that can make the stage easier. For example, on the 3rd screen (right after the falling block segment) there are 2 hearts you can get to restore your health. But if you then go back to the 2nd screen and then go to the 3rd screen again, the hearts will respawn. So essentially, you can use that point as a little "pit stop" of sorts, where you can get your HP back up to full with a little patience if you need to. Just don't expect to get an impressive completion time if you do that. |

Well, until I found out that the hearts respawn, hell was ridiculous for me, because like you, KP, I can never seem to quite get the hang of that block segment. With this trick though I can erase any damage I take in that segment. For the rest of hell I pretty much do what boing does - I take the course slowly and carefully so as to preserve HP.
However, I actually skip the storm of angels before Heavy Press. How, you ask? With the fireball, it's possible to blow up the deleets that block your path to heavy press before walking far enough to trigger all those angels flying in, if you fire from edge of the chained platform hanging from the ceiling (you might have to jump a little to make the fireballs fall at the right angle to hit them). Once both of those are out of your way you can just jet right into the boss room with the booster and skip the swarm. Edit: As for the secret boss...well, form 3 is actually not too hard if you can get his pattern down. Actually, I have the uncommon opinion that the first 2 are harder than the last 2. I think I take the most damage on the first form typically for some reason. I can actually do form 3 without taking any damage. all you have to do is line yourself up right and then sit still as he approaches, and the little...things that orbit him will go around you without leaving a scratch. I guess it's a little bit difficult to explain in words though. Perhaps it's better to go and watch a youtube video of someone fighting him. You'll see what I mean then, if the player knows what he's doing. |

Aren't you late by... FOREVER and a half?
I mean... You're well aware it's coming to WiiWare soon, right? Similarly, There is a remix project out since years ago, and I DARE SAY THIS ONE'S THE BEST REMIX EVAH (And I mean of any remix ever made ever. Maybe "Holy Judgement" could top it, but only barely.) Posted by Raibys And this is entirely useless if you want a time under 3 mins (I've gotten 2'59"2), or if you're playing through hell with only 3HP. (Entirely possible, I've done this too.) |

This game is Jesus to me, it has no major flaws... Besides its short length, that is. Cave Story Wii is a must buy for me right now, I have 2000 Wii Points always in reserve for when it is released (The 1000+ cost of the game and the rest for DLC.).
I'm still curious about this DLC... It has been referenced in the site's updates more times than the word Wii itself ._. Any type of alternate character would be fun, hopefully with a different play-style like Mega Man 9's Proto Man mode. If a basic level builder is also included as DLC, I would worship the ground Pixel walks on. ____________________ Any of the RPG Makers that you have a question on, or if you would like to request some graphics, send me a message. |
