Over here in Europe, we have those GSM/GPRS-based internet USB sicks which typically take a SIM card and operate like cellphones. They don't cost significantly more than a plain DSL contract, though they are often significantly slower.

If anything like that exists over there, why don't you contemplate getting one of them?

Just remember that a such connection is awful if you plan to do any kind of online gaming requiring a decent latency.

You can always look for free WiFi access in the general area too~

My new place comes with internet included in the rent but its Wireless N and not Wired, I bought a Wireless N usb key yeasterday, best available at the store, but for some reason it picks up the wpa-2 signal as wep so i'm gonna bring it back today and get my 90$ back

I'll probably have to order a wireless internal card to get anything decent.
