I play my xbox on and off, sometimes more than others, but generally not like every dayy all the time. I got road runner and began to play more frequently because I could finally play online without lag, and my xbox has been fine. Then, after getting rr cut off, and not using my 360 for like 2 weeks or so, my friend got his 360 fixed after it had rrod'd ironically like a few days sfter i got rr. Anyways the day he got it back I turned it on to get on xbl and try to play with my shitty internet and bam. IT FUCKING RROD'D! WHAT A FUCKING WEIRD SET OF EVENTS. plus I just shipped it to microsoft. I'm not holding my breath on this either. I expect it back in a month or so. Anyone else been plagued by microsoft's shitty operations? ____________________ |

I have a dream that one day, even board2, a board sweltering with the posts of injustice, sweltering with the posts of NightKev, will be transformed into an oasis of thoughtful posts that don't include sheep like opinions. |

So you run linux? or worse yet, mac? I'm ok with linux and mac until I realize that A.) Macs are fucking overpriced as hell and i don't like them and they can't run games unless you install windows on them so there's no point in paying way way extra for the same damn hardware, and B. Linux is good until I realize most of the apps I need won't work with them plus games won't run either. Windows may be bloated, it may be a bunch of patched up band-aided shit code with crappy security, but for me, I use it, need it, and well, all negatives aside, like it. Same goes for the 360, it may be shitty not reliable hardware that wasn't properly tested etc etc, but its a great social platform (XBL) and I wants it back I hope i get a new one lol but I doubt it. I just arrived in Texas today so it should be in Microsoft's hands tomorrow. Then the true wait begins... I've heard it can take a month or more. Plus the 4-5 days for it to get shipped back to you (I live in NC). ____________________ |

Posted by cory21391 Nice wall of text as for software, what crap do you use? 95% software that I use on windows works on Linux via WINE, or then theres Linux version of it, or I use alternate program(for example I'll use µtorrent on winblows, but on Linux I use Ktorrent) as for games, Doom and duke nukem 3D runs well on Linux, as well Super tux (only PC games that I play nowadays), but I perfer console for gaming(GameCube&nes FTW) EDIT: oh and I use Linux mint 5.0(sometimes winblows xp when I get bored with my laptps 56k modem(aka nokia 6121classic), or I need to do something that my laptops 16mb gfx card cant handle, for example playing wolfestein 3D), updating to 7.0 when its out ____________________ |

So. Cory has a bad Xbox experience, like many other owners of the Xbox do. Despite not having one of my own, I can imagine this experience to be very fucking frustrating. I saw a program on TV a while back about Microsoft not actually fixing the problems but just returning new, equally broken units so I have to agree on the "shitty operations".
When asked if others have been through the same, NightKev shifts the topic from the Xbox, a game console that they don't seem willing to un-break, to Windows, a PC operating system that has its faults in general, but with continuing attempts to fix. Arbe calls Kev on it in his own dick-like way with some poorly thought out statements, Kev goes to town on said statements and the thread goes to Hell in a frilly pink handbasket. At this point, users with handles like "KDE User X" can only make things worse. This thread went circling down the drain at the first reply. As for being "plagued by Microsoft's shitty operations", I'm happy to say that I for one have never been. Not specifically with Xboxes (since I don't own any) and not with MS in general ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

My Xbox 360 RROD'd about five months ago, it sucked. Was playing Doom on it, of all things, and it overheated (no, I don't do anything stupid either like keeping it inside a cabinet or whatever, the machine is out in the open). I was just barely still in warranty; and my new console is no longer under warranty (their warranty policy sucks ass), I really hope it doesn't break as well. |

Posted by KP9000Posted by NightKev^^ Posted with Microsoft XPPosted by ArbeI hate Microsoft due to first-hand experience. Posted by KP90002) Not every program I use (game or otherwise) works correctly on Linux, so I'm more or less forced to stick with windows (at least I don't have to use Vista...). ____________________ |

A LOT OF SOFTWARE doesn't work on Linux. I don't know about WINE, but Adobe products don't work on windows, Games don't, a lot of less common apps don't (again WINE i don't know about) therefore I need Windows. Also, I actually LIKE Windows and have relatively few problems with it (I use Vista and 7 looks to be a lot better, plus a lot of vista's problems are fixed even though UAC is annoying as hell). And while I agree that it isn't perfect, has problems, is bloated in a lot of ways, and doesn't have great security, I still like it. Why? APPLICATIONS. I can't seem to re-iterate this fact enough. And user friendliness as well. As for security, quite simple, use fucking common sense when surfing the web and you probably won't get a virus. Now if you are the average Joe with an ounce of flexibility and turn around time to learn new things, Linux is a fine alternative to Windows. Internet browsing, e-mail, im, media players, etc etc works just fine. Hell aside from really memory/CPU intensive tasks (like HD video encoding or some shit) and running billions of things at the same time, and of course app compatibility with linux, I could use ydl on my ps3 as my pc no problem.
BACK ON TOPIC lol: My 360 is in Mesquite Texas they just received it today (Friday) and the progress says it will take 2-3 weeks from now (the day they get it) for them to fix it and ship it back. So yeah, about a month all things considered. :\ EDIT: I keep mine out in the open too. Here's a pic of my gaming/computing setup. I think it's pretty cool. I have an HDMI to DVI cord and a VGA cord both plugged into my monitor so I can switch inputs whenever, it's a little annoying though when I want to play 360 when the HDMI is plugged into my ps3 or vice-versa, but an HDMI selector box plus 2 HDMI cables isnt cheap... Oh and it's annoying that the ps3's vent is on the right so when I play it it blows hot air all over me, which was nice in the winter And of course it's 360-less atm... And here's a very tragic video ____________________ |

They'll just give you a brand new console; your old console is still sitting in some warehouse waiting to actually get fixed some months down the road. |

Posted by chungyI heard those replacements would have the very same design problems. Doesn't seem to solve anything if you ask me. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

Well, I got it back on time, and it worked perfectly fine and has since. The only thing was the little door for the 2 usb ports on the front was broken off so there's a hole there, but I called and they're supposed to be sending me a new one. I have a 3 month standard warranty on the "new" console and about a year left for the 3 year RROD warranty. Hopefully this won't happen again... ____________________ |
