You forgot to initialize map[,]. Make sure that you do Map = new int[MapWidth, MapHeight]; too.

That was from the C# code, just in case. I'll leave the VB translation to you.

I do that.. I just forgot to copy it, before those loops I have

dim map(mapWidth,mapHeigth) as integer

Then I have no idea what the problem is.

Thanks for the great tut, the first part was just what I needed to get a handle on the basics.
I've taken it further and nearly have a complete map editor for Four Swords Adventures:

Or, you know, copypaste the URLs. I've seen your pics, Jay. I'm impressed and proud.

...that was totally unexpected.

Assuming you were serious, open Visual Studio, click File, New Project. In the Templates list, select "Windows Forms Application", enter a good project name below, click OK. Give it a moment, and there's your Form1 window.

Seriously, though? It's called documentation. It's for reading, especially when it has Getting Started chapters.

You never said what program you were using in the tutorial. If I knew you were using Visual Studio I would've found it right away.

That would've been a great argument if every other person who came along to use this tutorial didn't figure that out for themselves, aside from ample mention of it being C# when Coby got involved near the end of the first page, and it's not even neccesarily Visual Studio, be it C# or VB.Net, as the basic techniques would apply just about anywhere.

"Think, McFly."

The other people already know C# so they would know.

That actually is a good argument, but how do you cover the other part -- that the tutorial is not neccesarily for C#, or even .Net?

Considering the various levels of programming languages, learning C#, VB (.Net or Classic, see if I care), Python... really, anything at all that's not assembly or raw binary machine code should be peanuts to you.

You know, high level language vs low level? Assembly is about as low as you can go. You can only go up from there.

Why did you even care what the window was named..? It's an example program anyway.

It's not the fact that the title bar says "Form1", it's that he couldn't see what Form1 was made in.

Do pay attention

Oh I guess I misread his initial post, though it does seem rather vague...

That doesn't matter now.

What I wonder though, is how easy the principles in this thread so far can be practically used in other languages (besides VB.Net).

Guys, I have been researching and trying to learn C# the last couple of days. You don't need to leave any more smug comments.
